American Express Green card

Postby skip jahn » Mon Jul 06, 2015 6:38 pm

I have had an American Express Green card for several years. Have never paid much attention to the rewards program, but I have 63,000 points. Is that worth anything? How do I redeem them?

In my latest statement they say they are changing things and I can/must transfer the points to Avios. Do not know what that is. According to the Summary of Changes Effective Oct 1, 2015 the exchange rate goes down significantly.

Can you tell me what is going on here and should i bother doing anything?

Thanks.

Always research this before applying -- not after. There are many ways to redeem but the method will affect the value of the points and can range from being very poor to being very good value. Generally speaking, best value is attained by transferring to travel partners for premium international cabin travel. However, there may be other methods that would be acceptable to you. If you can't be bothered to look at the MR site and figure out redemption value then take a look at the blogs that discuss getting the most out of MR points.

You're not understanding - that would require work on my part. Totally unacceptable. I'd rather you minions do the legwork for me. So rather than me call Amex and ask them, I'd like to allow you the favor of helping me out. I should think you would be honored.

Thanks.

Apparently so, since it sounds like they are pushing him to use those points or.....I don't know. Not sure why they are worried about them, and I'm not sure why he's not worried about getting something out of them, but what do I know.

No disrespect to OP but it is humorous to me how many people post questions that the issuer can easily/quickly answer, and wait sometimes hours for answers, as opposed to making a 2 minute phone call to answer their question from the source (not that CSRs are always the best but you get my point).

Or fail to do the most BASIC of reading about cards before applying, but want everyone to spoon feed them info that they could have much more quickly looked up themselves.

Even better is when they apply for a card and get it, THEN post in here asking if the card is any good.

Um, maybe I'm missing something, but wouldn't you think it would be better to try to learn that BEFORE applying for it? That's like buying a vehicle, then going to online forums and asking if it's a good vehicle or not,
