Any Chip and Pin US Credit Cards

Postby Whatamuji » Fri Jun 19, 2015 2:58 am

I was wondering if anyone had any idea where one could find a Chip and Pin credit card in the US that isn't issued by a Credit Union or the like.

There is no true Chip and Pin like what you get in Europe, from what I have read.

The Barclay Arrival+ will default to chip and pin if needed, but it prefers chip and sig. Everything else with a chip in the US is Chip and Sig.
Chase Freedom $9k~~Chase Sapphire Preferred $6.5k~~Amex Blue Cash Preferred $12.4k~~Citi Double Cash $4.7k

What would be wrong with getting one from a credit union? Many of them have fairly relaxed membership requirements.

The Credit Unions that offer Chip and Pin are for Federal or Military employees and their families etc. I therefore don't qualify for those Credit Unions.

I've thought about SDFCU, but after doing some reading on their website, it sounds like it's like Arrival+.

That is, it may first try to work with a signature, with a PIN as a backup option.

Hawaiian Air Barclaycard World Elite $89/yr. no foreign transaction fees,

Worked for us in France & Spain last October 2014. Automated gas stations which required a pin.

I do not believe there are any Chip and Pin in the US.

Although the Capital One Quicksilver cards are Chip and Sig.

UNFCU has a chip and pin cards. And you can apply by joining the UNAUSA association.

Wells Fargo Propel Cards (365 and World)
Diners Club Card (Premier and Elite)

They are all Chip and PIN, and I've used the Diners Club Card domestically as such.

When using any of them at machines equipped for either swipe or EMV Chip, if you are prompted for swipe or chip, or just automatically put the card in the reader, you're prompted for a PIN, if the transaction is over $50. If under, it will approve just as a swiped card would.
