Do you use your credit card for fast-food purchases?

Postby Whatamuji » Sat Jun 13, 2015 12:25 am

So I work at a fast-food restaurant (there's a clue to which one in my profile name) and I notice that more often than not, people pay with their debit cards rather than a credit card. And it has me wondering why that might be and whether you guys commonly use a debit card for fast-food purchases?

Not everyone eats at fast food places for the price alone but,

More often than not they do so they prefer to pay with debit card because it's easier to budget within ur means by paying with cash from debit vs credit

I'm going to go with exactly what whit said. There's a lot of people out there who just can't handle the idea of credit cards or just simply don't understand the benefits of them. It's the demographic of clientele, not that there is some special benefit to using debit cards at fast food joints.

That makes a lot of sense. The credit cards I do see on the rare occasions that people use them are typically AMEX Green and Gold cards, Marriott rewards card. I think there's one person who uses a CSP on a regular basis, along with another who uses Venture, a couple of who use the United Mileage card, and one who uses Citi Doublecash. Came across a Citi Diamond Preferred a couple of days ago. Funny what you can gleam from peoples finances just buy looking at what credit card they use. The demographics I serve are pretty much Males 30-50, Females 40-60 majority white and hispanic followed by African American / Asian.

Not necessarily.

I myself have fallen into that misconception but it's hard to make any valid conclusions from that pool of data.

It's also hard to say whether someone whose been approved for CSP or citi diamond preferred to have better credit or assets now than they did when they were first approved.

I was in a pretty affluent neighborhood where a lady was sitting on a house appraised for almost four mil but couldn't refi because while her credit was great back then, is horrible now.

Can't judge a book by its cover :)

I use my credit card at fast food places when I go to them which isn't that often. I use my Marriott Card, so I fit into that demographic. However as others have stated some just don't understand the differences, some have issues with budgeting etc.

Very good point. Totally didn't consider that. Thanks for bringing that up.

I've noticed there are maybe 2 or 3 transactions taking place with Discover IT or Freedom cards as of the last few days. They're not regulars so whether that number will stay consistent I'm unsure.

So no clear trend of Freedom or Discover use spiking starting April 1?
