Backdating:

A. Doesn't "fool" anyone until the card has been open and shows many years of payment history.
B. Even then, wouldn't be much of a factor if Member didn't have so many rage-closed cards.
Love: IHG, Platinum, Sallie Mae, AA Plat, CSP
Like: Discover, ED, BCE, Hyatt, Arrival, Freedom
Might drop: BrooksBros, Prestige (Costco PC?)
Might add: Proper business card, CSR, Ritz, Delta Gold
Letting new accounts cool off since May
Really not sure what I'll add next or when

That alone is gonna make me keep the Wells Fargo Propel World Amex card (I will downgrade it to the lower annual fee version after 1st year.) Those offers alone have already gotten me over 1.5k statement credits this year.

What are some of the offers that Wells Fargo gives?

I think Member needs to step back and assess the situation and decide what to do. I agree backdating is really not that big of a deal and certainly doesn't mean you need to keep a card forever.

From this thread I'm gathering Member is being a bit wishy washy and talking himself into keeping things he probably deep down doesn't want anymore. Hopefully he can come to a conclusion.

Just call me Member II because the other week I rage closed CSP, Hyatt and Ink. When I had 3 completely incompetent reps in a row AND my business card account screwed up by Chase I knew I was done with Chase. They had my sole proprietor account listed as a multiple partners account or something of the sort. They sent me a wrong card on top of it and never fixed what they promised to fix. Chase will never be in my wallet again.

So you've rage-closed and sworn off Amex, Discover, and Chase in 2015? I take it that Diners Club is your everyday card now?

I just wonder why is there this perception that I rage close cards? When I called FNBO there was no rage going on it was a very cordial conversation. I didn't rage in the chat when I closed Lowes either I just asked to close it, told the guy why (he obviously didn't care why as there was no response I might as well have said "so I can say I rage closed another card on CreditCardForum") and he closed it and that was that. I had no emotion whatsoever closing the Lowes a tinge of regret closing the FNBO card, but no rage in either case. Likewise with the two Chase cards I closed to use to move limit, no rage going on, had very cordial conversations with the reps.

I think that's way overblown into people thinking every closing is screaming and swearing and death threats or something, which is ridiculous - think about it. None of my closings have gone like that. Have I been pissed when I closed a couple of them in the past? Yep. But I didn't take it out on a CSR who had nothing to do with it.

Geez people get a grip.

The same offers Amex offers. You gotta link the card via Facebook/Twitter to take advantage of it. Offers I've used this year from all Amex cards (including authorized users and non Amex issuing banks) were Shell gas, Chevron gas, home depot, Lowe's, dollar general, and the big one I really enjoyed, Smart and Final.

So with Facebook, it's possible to use the same offer across multiple cards, once per card? I've heard of this before, but not looked closely into the details.

Is there a website you can suggest that explains it all?

I'm on Facebook, but not Twitter.

Yeah. That's what I do on the good stuff they offer. Here is a link to this guy who explains it pretty well.
