Well, I wasn't able to find that earlier, but I can keep the link and ask them about it. Where did you find it?

*Does anyone have anything to beat Vermonster's 80k+$50?

I hope the exclamation was about the possibility of me making a premature SM request. Has Chase been cracking down on offer matching - meaning I might not even get the 80k, $0 offer?

It's funny...earlier this evening I was content with 60k and $50. Now I'm looking for something better than 80k and $50...

So 80k + $50 is the best offer? I'd never even heard of that one.

Should I send the secure message ASAP? Once I get my card?

*I haven't yet sent any message to Chase about either superior offer. I take it that Chase will only "upgrade" a offer once?

Send the message after getting statement credit, OR after meeting spend for best results.

I just binged "IHG 80k" and set the results to only show pages from the last week. First page offered that link to the 80k offer. Really the +$50 and AF waived first year makes the card a 2 year no AF. Not bad.

80k is the best I've seen.

Thanks, Vermonster and Nixon!

I'll send a SM after I meet the spending. I'll keep using Freedom for dining but may take an "under 30 swipe" month for EDP. I can still get 3 MRs on groceries and 1 at Costco, but other stuff will go towards the spending for the IHG bonus.

Even if you value an IHG point fairly conservatively, the overall value of the bonus can be worth a decade of annual fees - even before the free night each year.

Don't overlook the fact that you can buy these points cheaply too.

Yeah I was looking around and saw that you can get things like 100,000 points for $560. That's a pretty damn good deal, especially if you can grab some of those nights at the special price hotels.

I see an option to buy points 1k at a time, paying:

1,000 - 10,000 points for $13.50 per 1,000 points
11,000 - 25,000 points for $12.50 per 1,000 points
26,000 - 60,000 points for $11.50 per 1,000 points

Those are reasonable prices for adding a few points for a reservation where I'll get nearly 1 cpp in redemption value.

Buying points at about half-price certainly sounds better, though!

I would consider getting the IHG card at some point (I'm gardening) but I don't like the fact that it doesn't have chip and sig. Or does it and the picture on the website is misleading?

I'll let you know when I get it, but Chase doesn't list it among the "Chip-Enabled Credit Cards" on their website.

The rewards on non-IHG spending aren't anything special. Not having a chip (or PIN) generally isn't a problem at major hotel chains, and I expect IHG hotels process quite a few of their own co-branded cards. I know there are local merchants that will take an un-chipped card so I can meet the minimum spend.

So for me, the absence of a chip on this card isn't a big deal, since I'll basically just be using it at the hotel in the long run.
