This forum seems much more like a community with real, honest advice. Myfico is more coddling of people. "go ahead and app, it's okay that you have 20 new cards in the past year, it's fine..." They encourage apping over basically anything else and encourage telling people only what they want to hear. If you tell the real truth you get warned/suspended/banned, which is why I don't post as much on there. They want a certain type of posts ONLY and I'm not going to waste huge chunks of my life on a site like that.

Yup, I think I've seen you post your mind and then a few not liking your advice at all, going to the point of saying "why post here knowing that we're all app addicts" or something similar...

No, You can call if it goes pending. Then you can give them pin to CR of THEIR choice or tell them to EAD, lol.

I have a thread just about this.

Noticed that totally. I still read over there every so often.

Hah. That's a bit ham handed. The involuntary withdrawal, I mean. But I guess kdm is correct, no point in being active in a forum that doesn't agree with you this extremely.

Thanks for the Chase suggestion!

On a side note, where I come from, the word "veteran" isn't used in the same context as here. A veteran used to be an old professional, or a seasoned cricketer or other sportsman. Retired army personnel are generally called "ex-military". Also, by vet, I understood a veterinarian. Love how different words mean totally different things in different cultures and contexts.

For me, I like to have one points/rewards system, and the rest straight cash. I know I'm not "maximizing" rewards, but I'm also not spreading out my rewards. In 2 years I saved enough in URs to get 2 round trip tickets to Italy. If I has MRs too I would have only had enough for one ticket through each. That extra hassle isn't worth it to me for the potential extra money.

Right now I have 4 cards, and my recent Double Cash was an impulse that I regret a little. I can see myself getting 1 or 2 more cards in the next 5 years. Mostly as we look at houses that need work I can see a Lowes/HD card. Besides that I really don't need anything, and staying away from MF helps me not think about apping for random cards.

Your card list looks a lot like my preferred card list. Freedom/CSP for the UR points and the combo, plus having one 5% card and one travel card (as little traveling as I do regularly, it's nice to have that option). BCP for Groceries and gas when Freedom doesn't have it as a 5%, and Double Cash for pretty much everything not covered by other cards (bills, mostly).

I was once one of those that was shooting for 10 cards out of the gate. But I read some of the posts on the other boards (not shooting fish in a barrel by mentioning those by name) and see all the threads on churning, bumping, freezing and all sorts of other credit shenanigans. I quite frankly don't have the time or the inclination to play the credit game like it's the slots in Vegas.

If you'll be making 30 swipes, and can use MRs well for flights, consider EDP instead of BCP.

Also consider a double-rewards (first year only) Discover instead of a Citi Double Cash.

I've thought of Discover, but the acceptance is so much worse for their network than it is for MasterCard. EDP could be an option although I was shooting for the 6% on groceries you can get on the BCP. And with CSP I'd only really have 2 cards with annual fees.

Not everyone takes Discover, but that's really only an issue for people who want 2 or 3 cards. If you plan on having 4 or 5, then Discover is a great addition.

I'd take 4.5% in MRs over 6% cash. 1.5% in MRs is pretty good for off-category stuff.

EDP's AF is slightly higher than BCP's, though.

Bless me, gardeners, for I have sinned. I gave in to the temptation of a free night in a high-cost area...

Chase IHG MC. 60k pts + $50. I will try the SM route to try to get 80k points instead.

$4k CL (perfectly adequate for a hotel-only card). Same 15.99% APR that (I think) everyone gets.

And having recent new accounts was not a problem. It's my 7th new account in the last year and I was instantly approved.

*Perhaps significantly, though, I have not closed any accounts to indicate bonus-chasing behavior, and I have used Freedom and CSP regularly.

Yeah, I'm happy calling my set the Optimal Lazy Mans Wallet. It takes almost zero thought, well it will after the 0% period on the BCP and DC. Currently I'm trying not to run those up until I see my bill for school in the fall. I'd really like to not take out another loan.
Chase Freedom $9k~~Chase Sapphire Preferred $6.5k~~Amex Blue Cash Preferred $12.4k~~Citi Double Cash $4.7k
