I don't remember you mentioning wanting a BOA card... I thought you weren't apping for awhile. Hasn't it only been maybe a month? :P

Of course you need to unfreeze for approval. I'm not surprised.

2 months, duder.

I don't really want the card, but i'm frankly surprised they even called me considering I am/was blacklisted even recently.
However, if they gave me a card, It would represent a major breakthrough in my repair process. Getting back in with another major lender I previously burnt.

That would be good progress indeed Nixon. Some of them have long memories, it always is a YMMV situation.

I just got an email that Chase approved my Amazon Visa - with a 500 dollar limit. Yes, that's correct, 500 bucks.

Ouch. I haven't had a 3 figure limit on a card since I had a Cap One "Steps" card. I wonder what's up with that. Yes I realize I have plenty of inquiries and new accounts, but I have two Chase cards with combined limits of 23k and a checking account with them, so I'm not sure I understand the conservatism here, other than inquiries, new accounts and the fact I don't use the cards I have with them now.

I have been thinking of thinning the herd WAY down. Maybe I could move the limits from Freedom and the CSP over to this. I want to keep ONE Visa Sig card open.

Basically it was shaping up to look like this when I thought about it this AM:
Wallet -
Citi Double Cash World MC 15k
Home Depot 10.1k
Amex Gold (upgrade to PRG) NPSL
Discover IT 8.5k
Cap One Buypower WE MC 10k
Chase CSP (consolidate Freedom limit onto this) 12k - 23k

Keep Home -
Amex Hilton 9.5k
Amex EDP (downgrade next year) 18k

Close -
Chase Freedom 11.5k
Barclay Arrival + 7.5k
Lowes 10k
Amazon Prime 2.9k
Dodge Mastercard 12.8k
BofA Travel Rewards 10k

Now I'm thinking I would just move CSP and Freedom limits onto the Amazon card IF it's a Visa Sig, and keep that.

I'd close the EDP and the Hilton card, but I'll never be able to backdate again, so I hate to close them, but I don't see myself using the Hilton card at all going forward, and much of the EDP. I REALLY only want the top 6 wallet cards at this point, it's just too much to have 15 credit cards for me.

I got my first BofA Cash Rewards ad in the mail. I don't use Sallie Mae much as it is, making a potential BofA card even less practical. PRG has been the only card I've ever gotten an ad for that hasn't been clearly inferior to what I already have.

I can understand the desire to get an account with them again. I wouldn't bother, though. If they want you as a customer now, they will probably only want you more in the future as your history improves.

You don't need to bother with them when you're an AU on a 4% Discover!
Love: IHG, Platinum, Sallie Mae, AA Plat, CSP
Like: Discover, ED, BCE, Hyatt, Arrival, Freedom
Might drop: BrooksBros, Prestige (Costco PC?)
Might add: Proper business card, CSR, Ritz, Delta Gold
Letting new accounts cool off since May
Really not sure what I'll add next or when

Right, the Cash Rewards is not a very exciting card (I don't know if Nixon wanted that one or not but yeah).

And Nixon if you don't really want it then why waste the app on it? I understand getting back in, but you've also said you were going to refrain from apps for a long time. 2 months is not a long time when it comes to gardening. Inquiries are still considered new at that point. I'm not trying to lecture you, and you can do what you want and feel is best, but perhaps you simply need to wait longer (of course, without unfreezing TU I see no chance of this being approved anyway but that's just me).

It's still gardening if there's no inquiry and no new account. :)

Member,

It sounds like you're at your internal limit with Chase.
I don't know what you're spending is like, apart from liking Amazon, but I doubt closing Freedom makes much sense.
*I'd definitely get rid of EDP if you're not optimizing your rewards. Can you close it and get a partial AF refund?

kdm,

I just meant that if:
1. You're getting a base 4% cash back
2. You already have several travel cards with AFs
3. You have some baddies and a low AAoA
Then gardening is tough to beat!

*Nixon,
I have to wonder if your "freezing games" really send the message to issuers that you've become more responsible. There may be no inquiry, but could there be a resulting note on your BofA history that you're doing something weird, suspicious, and potentially deceptive?

Right but how do you expect to be approved without them accessing a report?

Agree with the above who said that BOA may well just note that you seem suspicious/odd to them. All this for a card you don't really even want?

I know you always want to find "the way around" everything but sometimes there isn't. You need to be more patient. Build your credit. Then you can app with unfrozen reports and get approved on merit, not on some hope of getting around the system.

If they ask about my reports being frozen, The wife and I have good reasons for doing it. Identity theft and preventing it. And if it means that BoA will pull my much more favorable TU report, then fair is fair. They even suggested TU before I could even get the word out.

Freezing your reports is not suspicious in the least...It just means you won't get an instant approval, and must go to manual review. At that point you unfreeze and call in to reconsideration and confirm you really applied, or provide a pin and confirm you really applied. If you're approved, great. If not, oh well.
