I'll also have to rule out the Arrival+, the notion of which I was previously just slightly entertaining. If I got a general travel card it would be the Discover Miles. 3% even for just a year sounds pretty enticing to me. With a mortgage under my belt, I will feel free to start churning now!

I definitely want to go for a Sallie Mae as soon as it is safe - particularly if it will cover Walmart (a major merchant for my spending). I'd be open to something like a PRG for the introductory bonus then canceling after a year or so. Who needs an 800+ score when there are rewards to be had?

The reasons are not especially joyous or sorrowful.

While Discover Miles and It both have no FTFs, Discover's acceptance is pretty limited internationally. I'd prioritize getting a Visa or MC as a travel card.

***When I said I was ruling out Arrival+ past the first year, I meant I'd convert it to the no-AF version. The no-AF Arrival would still be good as a light-use, light-rewards Chip+PIN travel card for the long run. CSP would be my travel "heavy hitter". I just don't think (anymore) that the "+" version stands up to other cards.***

Sallie Mae and PRG are good. Keeping your ED open will let you keep your MRs if you want to close PRG.

***Edit: Apparently this isn't always allowed.

Now I will be in the garden for a very long time since I have MR for airfare, Hyatt for hotel and Arrival for purchases here and there. Fiance has CSP so she can take care of the URs.

I take it you got the regular/no-AF Arrival? Or you went for the Arrival+? The Arrival+ does make more sense if you expect to meet the $3k spending.

I went for the regular no-AF Arrival because i dont want to have more than 2 cards where i'm paying an AF. I dont plan on using the Arrival that much but just for places that dont take Amex and the bonus is 20k pts after 1k spend in 3 mo so that'll be easy.

Count me in the garden for at least 6 months! I love my new Marriott card, the first purchase I put on it was at a restaurant (that is part of the AAdvantage dining program) and the bartender immediately complimented it. I'm only 2 months from my second 3x CLI on my AMEX, which will give me two cards 10k plus.

And how bout yesterday I randomly pulled up my Chase online account to check my purchases on my new card, and my CSP received an auto 1k increase!? A nice reward for getting the Marriott and being responsible everywhere else maybe? After they declined my CLI in December, I was set to wait until July to ask for another (1 year anni). Now I am pleased enough to just wait 6 months on that.

I feel like I have a good mix of cards. I have no desire to app for another, and the only thing that will change that will be next year if I don't pay off the AMEX in time before the 0% promotion ends, I might be inclined to B/T somewhere. Given my track record so far (everthing is either PIF or well in advancec of end of promotion rate), I'm in cruise control.

One last note, my Buy Power GM Card and my US Airways are 4 or 5 months from another CLI, probably will have to recon with them again, but maybe not second go round. Discover I'm not too worried about until I get this B/T paid down as it took up majority of the CL.

There are plenty of forums to discuss MS/churning and the like, so why not post on those instead? It seems even though you have a huge post count on myfico it really isn't a great fit because you lean towards the "game the system" end of credit whereas some people on there are looking for a different approach/advice, and the mods frown on your approach. I'm not saying this to disrespect you but just something to consider. Perhaps you are simply spending too much time on there.

Actually it seems to be just fine of a fit on most fronts. Churning may not be encouraged but it's not really frowned upon there either.

I lean towards gaming the system because the system will game you every chance it gets..

Flyertalk is a good atmosphere for talking about MS/churning.

Don't like the forum format. Too many megathreads. :p

I'd rather toe the line between here, creditboards, and MyFICO.

Didn't you just say a few posts ago on another thread that you didn't like Credit Boards layout so that's why you don't want to post there? And now you're saying that you want to toe the line at Creditboards. Which one is it?

I mean just try to be consistent with what you're talking about.
Macy's TLs (21k), Lowes (17k), CSP (10k), Sam's Club (10k), Nordstrom (5k), AARP (4.2k), Freedom (3k), Discover (1.5k), Quicksilver (2k), BoA (3k), Barclaycard Arrival (2.5k), Amazon Store (6k), Paypal (4.9k), Sam's Club MC (3.6k), Walmart MC (1.2k)

Well, you could have gotten the Arrival+ for the first year for the bonus and better rewards, then downgraded to Arrival before the AF hit. It would be the same account and there would be no inquiry when you downgraded. There would be no AF that way, either.

With the minimum spend requirements on other cards, though, I could see how you might be concerned about missing the $3k spend requirement.

I may not like the layout on CB, but at least there is less megathreads than FT. Responses aren't lightning quick like MF, but they're quick enough.

There's also a little matter of the fact that for the next 108 hours, I don't have much of a choice for quick responses. CB is it for the moment since the window of quick responses is rather limited on CCF. :p

What's so inconsistent about that? :)

Right, but flyertalk is dedicated to the "things" you like. Myfico is not. You're trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. You spend an inordinate amount of time on myfico, yet most of your credit ideals differ from what the mods want to see there. It just makes very little sense. Why invest so much time and energy into a forum? Especially once you don't agree with sometimes.

My point is that your post count is huge and I know you said you post at work but you may consider maybe cutting back a bit in general. Being on a forum 24/7 is not especially healthy or normal. You can enjoy other things in life besides credit.

Saying you have "no choice for 108 hours for quick responses" sounds a bit unhealthy. It sounds like your life depends on quick responses or something. You need a break
