I'm going to attempt to remain in the garden for a long while now...did some HPs today, got Chase Slate with a mere $500 limit...called CS to get it higher, was told no :/ Also got a Paypal Extra MasterCard for 3K. Wasn't needed, but helps boost my ego blow suffered earlier from Chase xD I have 6 chase cards now, so I kind of get why they weren't too willing to give me more. Also consolidated all of my Chase Cards onto my Marriott, so now Marriott is high and all other chase cards are at $500. Now that I have semi wrecked my credit for a while, it's time to garden for a long long while....With the CRs now frozen, unlock Pins go into the Safe Deposit Box, in an effort to curb further temptation. In theory it should work well

That was the reason actually haha. I have 3 K sitting on Sears MasterCard (25% Interest after BT Promo) with a BT that is going to run out in a few months, so I figured I would prepare myself and apply for the Slate to use for whatever I have remaining on the card in a few months. Clearly that didn't workout for me lol, but if I really need to bail myself out, I did get a BT offer on my Marriott Card, so I could put it there if I really wanted too.

Probably just getting it for the free FICO score they offer now.

Interesting that they only offer the score on the Slate. I have CSP and Freedom and neither one of those offers a FICO to my knowledge.

I found that to be rather odd as well. If you can offer it to one, why not offer It to more. I guess they need some perk to besides BT to entice people to apply.

Before my reports froze over again I did a recon on the BOA I applied for and I was approved for 2.5K. Not too bad.

Having regularly updated FICO scores isn't nearly as important as having regular updates about the contents of your credit reports.

I find Experian credit tracker and Credit Karma give me the best picture of my credit files. If there were a solution for a weekly EX check I would totally jump on a card that has a free FICO. As it stands, the only way for me to get a better than monthly EX check comes with a FICO.

Knowing how many points up or down any credit score has moved, FICO or not, in a week or month is of no real value.

If Discover tells me my TU FICO is down 8 points, I don't know if someone fraudulently opened an account in my name, or if I just had a minor utilization fluctuation.

If Discover tells me my TU FICO is flat, maybe my utilization/AAoA situation has improved, even though one account has wrongly reported a late payment.

A score is just a ballpark figure, and will inevitably change again shortly. It's the credit report contents that matter!

Edit: My CC behavior has changed a bit. I'm focused on perks and big rewards. Complicating my life by trying to squeeze out an extra nickel of cash back on a small everyday transaction - while simultaneously contemplating high-AF cards for their travel rewards - does seem a bit bonkers.
