Here is something that really hacks me off

Postby MemberSince99 » Tue Apr 28, 2015 9:05 pm

Here is something that some lenders do that really gets me.

I requested a CLI on my Barclay's Arrival Plus. I knew it probably wasn't going to fly, but figured I'd take the inevitable hard pull and see what happened.

As I expected it was not approved. I did not hear from them within the 48 hours the message said they would contact me. I did see the hard pull on TU. When I went online to adjust my settings on the card, I saw a message relating to the "Increase your purchase power" CLI that said "We see that you recently requested an increase online. Unfortunately this cannot be processed online at this time. Please call customer service at XXX-XXX-XXXX. We apologize for any inconvenience".

You know, if you can't process it, then why did I take the hard hit and why is the button enabled for Christ's sake? If it's really not able to be processed for my account, then why the hell enable it and let me take the hard pull for nothing? Disable it if it's not an option.

I guess coming from the people who market a "real metal card that will get you noticed" as a cheap Centurion knock off for 495 a year and about no benefits for the money but the vague promise of luxury gifts, what can we expect. Yeah noticed as an idiot with 495 to burn - you know what they say about fools and their money....

I'd call recon and see what's up. I think sometimes the human eye can override whatever the system told you. BoA reps are usually great at this. Sorry to hear that Member.

I refuse to take an HP for CLI from Barclay's.

We tried that with the wife's Rewards and she got declined and a phone call to "Cut it out with the new accounts"
A week later they gave her $500 Auto-CLI. Go figure..

To some extent, I think most of us card geeks expect too much loyalty from issuers.

If only a tiny percentage of someone's spending goes through a particular issuer, and we call to ask for CLIs/extra rewards/special favors, how much should we really expect?

I called Barclaycard to try to get a SP CLI on Sallie Mae, and the CSR simply said I didn't have any such offers available. I think that the CSR (or, more likely, the algorithms that assign auto-CLIs) really wanted to say something like:

"You only use our card when you can earn 5% cash back, and you only spend a few hundred dollars on it a month! Pay us some interest on a small balance or use our card to buy other stuff! Why should we extend you more than $4.5k when $2k would be more than enough? If you want a higher CL, stop being so unprofitable!"

Member, I'm confused about your story. Did you make one CLI request or two? If two, were they both online, or was one over the phone?

I agree. We mostly wanted the CLI to apply it to future application (Arrival+)

I made one request online.

I thought about calling, but I really don't want to risk yet another hard pull on a decline (one is bad enough if there was no hope two would be worse yet).

And my dealings with Barclays CSRs has been far less than sterling. I have dealt with them via phone maybe 10 times. Two of those I recall I got an American who was able to help me. The rest, I got the reprs who weren't good enough to be Capital One CSRs - it was pretty much something you could post on YouTube.

So I think I'll just let it go. I'll be wiser in the future and never ask for online luv from Barclay's. If they ever give me an auto CLI great, if not, oh well.

I have the same philosophy with Chase - I won't ask for CLIs. Honestly I don't need or want them from Chase, but if I did, I would not ask them. I might actually apply for another card then close and move the limit as that would be more likely to be successful - just a Chase quirk I've noticed.

If you call the Barclay's reconsideration line, they won't pull another hard copy (make sure you ask first, they are actually knowledgable on this.)

I had a similar experience with Barclay on my US Airways (Soon to be AAdvantage) card. I did it online, got the "thanks, no thanks" message. To their credit though, they called me within 5 minutes it seemed (it was real quick!) and I was reconsidered and approved. It's definitely one of my favorite cards (always has been)!

That's great you had that experience with them. They did not call me or contact me in any way not even to say "thumbs down". Of course I could get something in the mail yet I suppose.

Anyway, I have dared to open new accounts after opening their card I'm sure they would not be happy with my credit behavior. Frankly, that's their issue not mine - I really don't care and have plenty of other lenders who would like the business if they wouldn't.

So it's all good. And I'm fine with them declining it I just can't say I'm a fan of enabling that thing if they can't even process it, but they can do a hard pull. Doesn't seem like a good way to treat your customers to me. But again, they have other options and so do I.

I feel the EXACT same way about Capital One LOL, and I have talked about that very feeling on this forum.
