I just trust AAA more if i have a roadside emergency since that is their specialty instead of calling a credit card company although they cover it...
Neither AAA nor AMEX nor anyone else offering road service coverage actually owns trucks. They have a contractor that does the work, and they pay a contracted rate for service (My experience with AAA rates were they were too low to be worth bothering with. Somewhere where AAA could keep a truck or trucks busy all day, you could make enough to cover the costs of those trucks and some fixed costs. I used to run a garage that AAA was trying to recruit as their service provider.). That's less than they'll charge someone who calls up and is paying retail, so two guesses about who gets serviced first, contracts to the contrary notwithstanding.
My last AAA experience: My wife called for a truck at 7:30. Got there at 10:30. (I went to let my wife have my car) Driver, who was fast, efficient, and professional, said "I don't start until 9:30, they're supposed to call someone else. " My guess is that they've lost their overnight contractor, and didn't want to pay retail. It was a perfectly nice day, so it's not like theyd have been swamped with jumpstart calls.
