Credit Card Acceptance - Marshall Islands.

Postby fantasy86dj » Fri Apr 24, 2015 9:09 pm

Hello everyone,

I am just wanting to get some information - not much available online so trying my luck on here.

I am looking at going to Marshall Islands in a few years, and was wondering about credit card acceptance. I expect my American Express to be useless, but am wondering about Visa and Mastercard. It seems to be a country where cash is king but I am wanting to know if anyone from here has been to Marshall Islands and what credit card acceptance is like.

Thoughts?

Thanks :)

A friend of mine spent a few years in the Marshall Islands. I can't remember her ever mentioning a credit card. Hell most of the transactions she made were straight up trades and bartering.

I remember her talking about how in their culture if you say you like something, the person is obligated to give it to you. So I wouldn't take anything of significant personal value.

Thanks Vermonster.

I have been doing some research and can see that MasterCard is almost useless - thank goodness I have some foreign currency cards (Visa) that I can load up before I go. I will have to take a little bit of cash with me though.... I never have more than $30 in my wallet when I am in Australia...
