Credit Card stolen now balance of $8,000+

Postby InCreditWeTrust » Wed Apr 01, 2015 11:52 am

Someone stole my credit card information and now I have a balance of $8,000+ I had a zero balance on this card and worked very hard to pay it off.

I called the credit card company reported the card stolen but they are asking for proof the card is stolen! They told me the charges on my card are considered legitimate despite the fact I told them it wasn't me who made these charges. The credit card company as of now told me I am RESPONSIBLE until the issue is resolved.

Charges show someone bought a Breitling watch, ammunition, jewelry, MacBook pro laptop, and other electronics products.

I then called the police, police came to my house and conducted an investigation. Feds may get involve because the thief may have committed Federal crimes as well

Please tell me what else can I do? I am thinking about getting a lawyer.

I thought it might be, but figured if the OP was serious, then such an attitude wouldn't be very welcome. OP isn't really a regular who might put the effort into a prank.

You had me until you said "they are asking for proof the card is stolen". Any credit card company that would say that to me I would toss it out the trash. I don't even know how one would get proof the card was stolen.

Might have been your choice of words if you indicated that that card itself was stolen versus having your card info stolen. Despite that, most card companies I've used have a better customer-oriented fraud department. Which company is this? Get the police report filed and submitted to them.
