Amex Everyday Preferred. $4,500. 0% on purchases and BT for 15 months, then 18.99%. 15000 MRs for $1k spend in 3 months.
I did a pretty thorough analysis of my spending in the last year, and somewhat pessimistically assuming...
1. I get no 50% bonus for 30 transactions.
2. I get 1.3 cpp for an MR (after factoring in the transfer tax).
3. I put no value on Small Business Saturday or other offers.
...EDP still comes out ahead (very slightly) of my Sallie Mae/PRG mix. PRG will be for perks and airfare, and Sallie Mae will be for Amazon, and a hedge against future EDP nerfing.
*Edit: And even with the lost chance to earn 1.5 MRs at Costco after 3/2016, the value is still there. I was just leaving a lot of rewards on the table since my grocery spending does have some big spikes over $250 some months.*
**Later Edit: I realize I did make a mistake in my spreadsheet, since BCE doesn't have a monthly cap. Still, one or two months of getting the extra 50% is enough to put EDP back in the lead.**
This is, technically, the first time I've paid an annual fee on a card. PRG and CSP (both of which I plan to keep - at least for another full year) had the fees waived the first year.
As an up-to-date data point for the PC rules/guidelines, I did ask if it was possible to PC my BCE into EDP. The CSR said no - it would have to be a new account due to the different rewards systems.
The CL is perhaps a bit low, but I'm not surprised or annoyed. Most of my spending had been going to Chase, despite Amex giving me a then-big $6k limit in August on BCE (which I've barely used). Maybe I'll call and try to move the CL around.
Is that something that's best to do right away after approval? Or should I wait until the EDP has arrived and I've activated the card to move the limits around? I know nothing is guaranteed about that.
