I must say I'm happy yet mad!

Postby paparoach429 » Tue Mar 17, 2015 2:54 am

So after more than 2 long years I decided to come out of the garden! I app'd for the Chase Marriott, Citi ThankYou Premier and the Discover it, in that order. The Marriott instantly came back with a whopping $15,700 for the highest card I currently have. Happy as hell, I app'd for the Citi and was instantly approved for $6200. Not as high as my current Forward card with them but hey I'll take it. Last I decided to go for the Discover card (since I literally receive, no joke, probably 3 pre-approvals for them a week) and after submitting one page of information, they want another, then another, then finally they want me to send them verification of my address and my social.. Is this a joke!?

Now I've been thinking and adding up my credit limits.. I now have exactly $35k with Chase between 3 cards. I wonder if I've reached their lending limit :)

Congratulations! I plan on gardening for a few years, if I can contain myself xD I hope to get the same results as you, at least regarding the Chase Marriott limit. $15,700 is pretty great...one of the higher Marriott limits i've seen personally. Great work!

Why do you think it's a joke? Verification happens and can occur with any creditor. A preapp means nothing.

Additionally discover may be seeing two other recent applications for credit and/or new accounts, and wants to ensure someone hasn't stolen your identity to get a bunch of cards. As you say yourself, you haven't applied for any new credit in a while so they may think it's a bit unusual. Really don't mean anything regarding your creditworthiness.

I agree that it's a reasonable request for Discover for the above reasons.
Very useful: SchwabPlat, CSP, IHG, Costco (was AA Plat), Freedom, SPG, Prestige (retention)
Somewhat useful: Discover, ED (was EDP), BCE, Hyatt

They would have seen the other two inquiries that fast? I would have thought it would take longer than a few mins.

I was under the belief that the inquiries showed up instantly but I could be wrong.

Barclaycard always seems to know within 24 hours anytime I have an inquiry. I say this because they will give me an update on my TU FICO right after I have a HP on Experian only.
