What to do with new Meijer MasterCard

Postby Michael » Wed Mar 04, 2015 3:30 pm

I recently applied for and was accepted for the Meijer Mastercard with an $11000 limit with Comenity Bank.

Later, after successfully using my AMEX BCP for groceries at 6% at Meijer, I decided that getting the Meijer MasterCard was very impulsive (something I am prone to) and I have no use for it since the rewards are not that good.

I really don't care about product trade (even if Comenity would do it), since I really have more than enough credit cards.

So what should I do with it? Just put it in a sock drawer and let it die on its own?

With an 11k credit line, I would keep. It will help out your overall CU. Put in sock draw for raining day

I agree. With that limit, since you already have it there is no point in closing it*. You can completely sock drawer it until they eventually close it themselves, or just use it once every 3-6 months or so to keep it active.

*This is all assuming you don't find it too onerous to monitor the account for fraud.

Don't make the mistake I did once and close that kind of high limit, even if you're just afraid of adverse action or something like that. Card like that can really help with getting limits on your other cards higher if you let it sit there long enough.

Thankfully I do have double digit limit cards again and I'm not screwing that up.
Macy's TLs (21k), Lowes (17k), CSP (10k), Sam's Club (10k), Nordstrom (5k), AARP (4.2k), Freedom (3k), Discover (1.5k), Quicksilver (2k), BoA (3k), Barclaycard Arrival (2.5k), Amazon Store (6k), Paypal (4.9k), Sam's Club MC (3.6k), Walmart MC (1.2k)

I always wondered what possessed you to close that Lowe's card back when Citi went nuts on you.

At this point, I'm pretty good with my profile now. I got plenty of padding either way. The cards are starting to grow the way I want them to.
