Probably gardening until after I get a car, or October whichever is later. By that point the Chase card will be a year old and I'll try for the one of the cards on my list. Probably Sallie Mae first if my TU score is up above 660 by then (it's about 615 now thanks to utilization).
Current Cards: Chase Freedom, Discover IT
Future: TBD

I just put my dad on my CSP as an AU today by phone. He said he'll probably use the card if he needs to rent a car and stuff like that and I also requested rush delivery on it. My mom is also an AU on that card too and added her to get that additional bonus. JP Morgan Priority line is the best. They're also the Ritz Carlton line but they can do a whole lot with other Chase cards. I've only used the CSP line itself once and they were also pretty good.

Also got an auto CLI on my Paypal Smart Connect the other day from 3.5k to 4.9k and my new Amazon store card limit of $6k started to report the other day too. Both of them are some of my oldest accounts and the starting limits for both weren't really that high at all when I first got them last year.
Macy's TLs (21k), Lowes (17k), CSP (10k), Sam's Club (10k), Nordstrom (5k), AARP (4.2k), Freedom (3k), Discover (1.5k), Quicksilver (2k), BoA (3k), Barclaycard Arrival (2.5k), Amazon Store (6k), Paypal (4.9k), Sam's Club MC (3.6k), Walmart MC (1.2k)

Never paid TransUnion as I was able to get adverse action report online even though ACR couldn't work.

Nevertheless, is there a reason to not use Credit Karma but waiting for ACR? For the soft pulls and disputes?

We do use Credit Karma, but it does seem to be little slow in reporting things. I just like doing the rotating ACR cycle for the "official" thing.

I don't understand. Are you going for a mortgage and is it a real concern or it's a 'lie' you're telling yourself to remain in the garden?

It really just comes down to how the timing has worked out. I would apply for one on my own if it weren't for the fact that she is SO close to having a clean profile. Across all CRAs, all negative information was set to come off by Dec 2014. Discover had gas for their Q1 category, so there really wasn't any point in apping for a SM before March (I'd favor Discover over SM until April). So, I had been waiting an extra couple months just to be safe and because there was no benefit in doing it earlier. Her TU report from CK is actually showing no derogs now with a 762 CK score, so I think her chances would be good if she applied right now. The mortgage thing just complicates it a bit.

We just started to talk more seriously about buying a house. Obviously a bigger priority than a credit card, but I'd still like a SM. I guess general advice is not to apply for any type of credit 6-12 months before a mortgage, which is a huge lead time. I don't know how much damage it would actually do to an application, but if we were to go for a SM the sooner the better now.

I noticed on CK that over the last year, my AAoA has only risen 3 months. I had only one card a year ago, though, so any new cards now just have a tiny impact on my AAoA.

If there's a real chance of getting a house soon, then wait on the SM. I don't plan to buy a house soon, so I have no obstacles to getting all my desired 'permanent' cards. The only thing remaining is an Arrival and a slim chance of an ED/EDP.

That is why I made the mortgage comment originally. I know you're right though - I really need to just hold off on any applications. It would be stupid to risk anything about a mortgage application for some card's rewards. We've long talked about it in the "one day" sense, looked at houses online we might like for entertainment, that sort of thing. But this summer might be a good time to actually do it (she is a teacher), so we've actually been talking about it more seriously.

Anything in particular holding you back on the ED/EDP? Is it just not having a big need when you would already have a CSP and Arrival/+ (assuming you would get one before the ED/EDP since it is a higher priority)? I just wanted to say, IF it was making the transaction volume then the app makes it incredibly easy to track your progress.

The ED is pretty useless for me except as a way to have an account open but avoid an annual fee until the EDP makes sense.

Comparing ED to PRG:
The difference between 1 MR and 1.2 MRs at Costco is pretty minimal. 2.4 MRs at grocery stores isn't that much better than 2 MRs on the PRG, and 5% cash on most traditional grocery spending is hard to beat. I'd have to get 2.08 cents per MR for ED to beat SM.

Comparing the EDP to the PRG:
1.5 MRs at Costco would be nice, and would work well for gas there. 4.5 MRs on traditional groceries would be great and beat the 5% cash without much trouble - but that means 30 swipes a month, and I would just so rarely get close to that since a lot of other spending goes on Chase cards or Discover. I'm not sure if I want to deal with the hassle of emailing myself little gift cards to get to 30 each month. I'd make large dollar-value normal purchases on an EDP, but I might not make a lot of total transactions.

If I'm not getting the 50% bonus for 30 swipes, then 3 MRs on groceries with an annual fee might not beat 5% with no AF.

I could try EDP for a year and see how it went. The signup bonus is nice, and I could always downgrade to ED.

I do stay occasionally at Hyatts, and that means I can use URs well. It might make sense to keep things simple and have one primary 'rewards currency' that I earn fewer points with but have a reliable way to use them. The best value I've seen for MRs is on a few Trans-Atlantic flights, and I make those less often than I stay at domestic Hyatts.

My most recent Equifax inquiry is a year old. I might go for a mostly-unnecessary HP CLI on something if I was fairly confident that the issuer would pull EQ. Creditpulls seems to only list initial applications.

Any ideas?
