Does the look of the Citi DCB bother any one else?

Postby aquarius7373 » Mon Feb 16, 2015 8:36 am

I'm having a hard time getting over this. What a poor design. I just want to tape my Amex over it.

My Wallet - Primary Cards:
Amex Blue Cash Preferred (25k ~ 6% groceries)
Barclays Sallie Mae (6.3k ~ 5% gas and amazon)
Citi Double Cash Back (5k ~ 2% everything else)

My Wallet - Secondary Cards:
Chase Southwest Business (30k ~ AU)
BBT Visa (10k ~ because visa)
Home Depot Credit (10k)
Amazon Credit (6k)

Not Used:
Cap One Credit (2.15k)
Macy's Charge (1k)
Kohls Charge (1k)
JC Penny Charge (1k)
Macy's Credit (0.5k)

Future Cards:
Cap One Quicksilver Visa (1.5% everything to replace BBT visa)

TCL : $97,950
Credit History : 12 years - always PIF
FICO EQ : 797
FICO TU : 791

I'm a newbie - all advice is appreciated!

It's not great but it also sits in your wallet where no one can see it most of the time.

I don't really care too much about what the cards look like as long as they don't look too similar when I'm going for them. At one time I had a MasterCard and a Debit MasterCard looking nearly the same and I'd sometimes mistakenly use one when I meant the other.

I do know what you mean when you see something that seems kind of stupid. A credit union I used to deal with, and had since I was a child, changed their name to a dot-com sounding name about 15 years ago. It was just a stupid name. I actually closed my accounts because the name was so stupid. I'm sure in some meeting there was some marketing guy going on about the "synergy" of it all. I don't miss them. I have even better deals now with the bank I'm currently dealing with...

Like any other topic I'm sure others share your opinion but the design doesn't bother me.

I think it looks better than Sallie Mae or the Amex Blue/Blue Sky/BC/ED cards.

I've not looked closely at a DC card in person, though, and sometimes a card can look very different from its advertising image. I was surprised that my CSP was such a dark blue.
Warranties and sketchy merchants: Schwab Platinum
Price rewind: Costco
Travel insurance: Prestige, CSP
Perks: IHG, Hyatt
Rewards/Offers: Discover, Freedom, ED, BCE
Taxes/Misc: SPG

Limited value, might close: Arrival

Might add: First Tech, proper business card

It is a rather crappy design I would agree. In terms of looks, the best looking card I have, would have to be my Marriott Rewards card...that gets the most attention from people, due to it's design and weight.
Cards Currently In My Wallet(See Avatar)
Chase Marriott Rewards Visa Signature (Daily Purchase): 13.4K
NFCU Visa SignatureCash Rewards: 5K
Sheetz Discount Card 3c Off PerGallon Of Gas Everyday

Total Credit Card Limits Roughly: 61.5K

No. As popamode said, I've seen worse.

First time poster :) ))

Just got approved for the Citi DC and I'm in agreement the design isn't the best looking, but it will serve it's purpose and that's all I really care about.

BTW, I'm having difficulty on the settings tool on how to set up a wallet sig on my posts. Any tips and how to get this done would be appreciated!
In Wallet:
SM Credit Union Platinum Visa 15K (opened 2004)
Citi Double Cash MasterCard 6.6K (opened 2015)
Chase Freedom Visa 5K (2009) (morphed from Providian/Wa Mu)

Design sucks in terms of the picture-color combination etc. however think (not sure) new cards have started not embedding the card # on the front side of the card. (found on recently received citi DC and Discover IT cards). This is good since the embedded numbers sometimes make impressions on lot of things (wallet, paper etc.), so slightly more secure and slightly less bulge in your wallet since its all flat.
(of course the chip-n-pin which is supposed to add security is not the best from couple of perspectives - will add few seconds delay to each transaction where it gets used as well as customer hassle remembering the pin, And where it doesn't get used it's of no use)
