Please list your favorite credit card and explain why...

Postby solomon » Sun Jan 04, 2015 12:14 am

What is your favorite card in your wallet? And why?

My favorite card [was] my US Bank Cash+ because it was my meal card for groceries and restaurants.

I still have 5% cash back at movies and fast food now + 2% at restaurants, so it has now become my 'date' card.

I just got an AMEX Blue Cash that replaces the grocery category for 3% now.

My card staple is humble, and the AMEX Blue Cash that I was really excited to get, @otter has in his 'sock drawer collecting cobwebs'...

So please tell us what is your favorite card and why so that I have something to look forward to...

Thanks.

I don't have many cards (well, only 2 prime cards that see regular use), but I must say Discover is my favorite. I know what I'm getting with cash back, the 5% bonus categories add a great boost in quarters that I find useful, and in other quarters I can just switch it over to chrome for 2% back on dining and gas. I've made good use of the ShopDiscover portal lately; it is also a nice boost if you'd be buying something from a listed retailer anyway (I was actually in Kohl's last month, saw something I was going to buy, and ended up ordering it online from my phone in the store for the 10% bonus).

I prefer Discover's text alerts, website, and mobile app over Amex's, too. The app has almost all the functionality of the website, and I love how both are designed. I knew what I was getting into with my Amex ED and have loved my experience with them so far, but Discover is easily my favorite.

Right now, Chase AARP. It's especially useful since a lot of my purchases are gas and restaurant related and the card itself is quite beautiful to look at IMO and I have a love/hate relationship with Discover It. The card has earned me plenty in cashback and customer service is always decent yet I've had several qualms with them in the past too and I'm not really using it much now.

I might start using it again now though cause of the 5% cashback on gas offer they have this quarter. Still hoping for some SP CLIs on it this year though so closing it is the last thing I'd wanna do with it really, especially since I've never been successful getting the Freedom anyway.

Ritz Carlton is also a great card for me to use regularly now and it's one of those travel/hotel cards that I intend to keep beyond the first year, despite the AF. I just love seeing reactions from people about how heavy the card is and how surprised they are when they see it and I've already earned quite a lot from the card too in terms of the reimbursements. Those are my main go to cards now.

@popamode72 you see the Chase AARP in the consideration list on my signature? All credit to you for the input.

I just found out you have to be a member of AARP though for 16 dollars a year.

How is the Sams Club card? I see it on your sig and its 3% back at restaurants and 5% at Sams club gas stations, but it means you have to drive to a Sams club gas station.

I tried getting that version but they countered with the normal store card basically. I'm hoping it will be eligible for an upgrade in the future.

So far, they've already been a lot less conservative than the Wal-Mart card I used to have with Sync so we'll see. For now, it's utilization padding and it's my highest CL right now.

They really shocked me recently with that too, I've only put 17 dollars onto the card and only had like one statement generate and I went on their chat and requested 10K and they countered with that and the starting limit was just $937 too. I'm a firm believer in the saying that higher limits beget higher limits. It also seems like different Sync Bank cards have different thresholds when it comes to how high the limits can be.

Also, I needed something that will work at Sams Club besides Discover since they don't accept any Visa cards.

They accept MasterCard though. I know they accept Chase Ink.

It's not like you get anything off at SAMs club when you use their credit card though.

I don't have any business credit, so Chase Ink is out of the question for me. I've read a little bit about the card but other than that, I don't really know much about what the approval criteria for the Ink is or anything.

I should had gotten the Chase Freedom for 5% back on Groceries this quarter but I already applied for the AMEX Blue Cash 3% groceries credit card this past month.

The 6% BCP would be so money but the AF is just not worth it to me.
