Amazon is smart, eh? Making it too easy to link card rewards to pay for items. My Discover IT, Chase Freedom and Citi Forward are linked. It's a convenience that makes sense.

I've used Virtual Account Numbers dozens of times at this point. But speaking on other threads, I may start using online banking on an as-needed basis for paying bills and rent to avoid fees.

Regarding swipes, I don't swipe debit cards at anything but ATMs or across the counter with bank tellers. Rarely, I get cashback at grocery stores, but that's it. Always make it a point to protect actual money.

Everyday swipes used to belong to Chase Freedom, but I've found more benefit with CitiForward. The Freedom basically has become a holidays card, though I didn't even use it this time around, as Discover covered both Amazon, Ebay, and all other online vendors. I think the Freedom is starting to lose a bit of relevance.

Slightly off topic, but AMEX by far has the best website.

PlyrStar93 wrote:I do agree this can be a great feature when doing payments on websites. Few creditors offer it nowadays; I hope Citi won't go after Discover.

However, I have not been using my Citi Forward for any card-not-present transactions for almost 5 months. Literally restaurants. Amazon is the major site I shop online, and have the card linked to my account to be able to use TYpts. When paying online at other merchants, I usually use Chase or Amex for better cash back/point value. When paying online bills, I use Chase/Amex for Comcast, and use Discover with Evolve Money for other utilities, so I can avoid fees charged by utility companies (actually their payment service providers).

While doing a lot of physical swipes, I am more concerned about data breaches in the physical stores nowadays.

I have only played with the VAN feature a few times, but never actually used it, or thought of it when paying online. Very good for you to mention it. It's hidden under "Account Management" instead of the credit card account detail page, and probably that's why I am pretty forgetting about the feature.

The ShopDiscover portal has been closed and merged to Discover Deals. Just FYI
You can find all the deals from ShopDiscover at Discover Deals now.

So I have the AMEX Blue Cash Everyday, but if you enroll on your account, you can get +2% back at Whole Foods.

Since you already get 3% back at grocery stores, then +2% = 5% back at Whole Foods.

Those with a BCP card get 6% then + 2% more = 8% back at Whole Foods.

But you could still save more money just shopping at Krogers or Ralphs.

Good luck with that. I just hope you get a decent limit with them because they tend to vary widely on who they like giving good CLs to. I would go for the Freedom instead but at the same time, even I've gotten a lot out of their rotating categories.

Worst case scenario is that I keep increasing my limit every 6 months.

Immediately SD the card if they offer you one of those HP $500 CLIs. I hope one day that I'll start seeing some auto increases from them. Since my HP $500 CLI, I haven't used the card much at all anymore.

We carry 3 cards. Two Sallie Mae MasterCards (one for each of us) and the Citi Double Cash MasterCard. We earn 5% on groceries, gas, and books (including Amazon) with SallieMae and 2% on everything else with Citi including Sams Club. We carry two SallieMae's to double the limited grocery cap.

I like it. It's also not too hard to get though some people have said it's Synchrony's most difficult card to get or something. Really I think if you have scores in the 700s you'd get it with no problem.
