So far, they've already been a lot less conservative than the Wal-Mart card I used to have with Sync so we'll see. For now, it's utilization padding and it's my highest CL right now.

They really shocked me recently with that too, I've only put 17 dollars onto the card and only had like one statement generate and I went on their chat and requested 10K and they countered with that and the starting limit was just $937 too. I'm a firm believer in the saying that higher limits beget higher limits. It also seems like different Sync Bank cards have different thresholds when it comes to how high the limits can be.

Also, I needed something that will work at Sams Club besides Discover since they don't accept any Visa cards.

After one year, contact Synchrony Bank to see if you can PC the their MasterCard version. I really like how that card allows me to get 5% cash back 365 days a year at any gas station.

Can't think of a good reason for it to be anywhere else (and my "useless cards are all literally in my sockdrawer in one of those plastic index card organizers). 3% on groceries? I get 5% with my Sallie Mae AND I can use it at Wal Mart/Target superstores. This quarter I can also use my Chase card. Even for those months I go above $250 in groceries, I'd prefer to use my GM card (5% towards new car) or my Arrival 2%. Heck, I'd even rather lose 1% by swiping the Duck card because it's not a toy limit.

I've even told Amex reps it's in the sockdrawer. When asked by an Amex rep why I wanted a chip in the card I told him my socks feel more secure next to EMV cards. They did send me the chip card, anyway.

But answering your question, the Sallie Mae is my favorite card. 5% on groceries and gas... and 5% at Amazon- easy $25+ every month.
In my Wallet:
  • Amex PRG NPSL[3-14, bd 91]
  • Sallie Mae MC $8000[1-14]
  • Chase Freedom $4700[1-14]
  • Discover It $2750[8-13]
  • BoA UCF Alumni Cash Rewards $5000 [3-15]
Sometimes in my Wallet:
  • GM BuyPower WEMC $5000[9-14]
  • Wells Fargo Propel 365 Amex $7000[4-14]
  • Barclaycard Arrival WEMC $7000[3-14]
  • BoA Better Balance $3000[2-15]
In my sockdrawer: Amex BCE $1000[10-13, bd 91], OCCU Duck $10000 [11-13], The Sportsman's Guide Visa $8000[8-14], Chase Slate $4000 [9-14]Delta Gold Amex $2000 [2-15 bd 91], Diners Club MC $20000 [10-14] Commerce Bank Visa $2000 [3-15] Citi Double Cash $1000 [3-15]
Total CL: $90450

Amex BCP for groceries (6%).
Chase Freedom for 5% categories: groceries, restaurants, Amazon.
Chase Amazon for Amazon only (3%) unless I'm using a 5% card or gift cards bought at grocery store with Amex BCP (6%).
Chase IHG for IHG hotels only.
Fidelity Amex for everything else (2%).
I was using Cash+ for restaurants, but we know what happened to that; now, this card is standing by for department/clothing stores (5%).
Almost all of my non-grocery shopping is online (using points malls when available) and almost all of that is with Amazon.

For the AMEX BCP, is the 75$ AF worth it to you?

Yes. I usually spend about $550/month or a bit more on groceries. This year, the first three months will go on Chase Freedom and the remaining nine (about $5,000 worth) will go on BCP. I'll get up to the $6,000 cap on BCP by buying Amazon gift cards at the grocery store. In 2013, I hit the BCP cap in late October and had to use Fidelity Amex for groceries until year-end.

Take what you spend on groceries per year, multiply by 0.03 (the difference between BCP and BCE) and if the result is more than $75, then BCP is worth it.

I will consider a PC to the BCP after a year (because of the Credit Card product change laws from no-AF to AF) and if my grocery $ increase, because I think I only circulate about $50/month on groceries--and, also, unless I have a coupon, buying the store brand stuff instead of name brand, too, because it's on sale..

My absolute favorite right now is my Discover card. The categories are almost always useful, their customer service is stellar, and I recently successfully took advantage of the price protection and got $80 back on an item that went on sale a couple months after I bought it. The process was seamless and easy. Plus, I took advantage of the no FTF when I went to Europe in the summer. I also love Discover Deals.

This being said, a couple of cards should also get honorable mentions: the Costco TE Amex serves as my Costco, gas and restaurant card (when there aren't other promotions), and I am very grateful for the card. I do wish they would drop the FTF though. The other card I love having is my Orbitz Visa - it gives 5% back on Orbitz bookings plus 2% on everything else in the form of Orbucks - which, granted, can only be used to book hotels on Orbitz, but if you can use it as I do, the rewards are very easy to earn and use.
