I keep getting turned down due to my thin credit file

Postby OnlineForumMember » Mon Dec 29, 2014 4:10 pm

Ok so im 24 years old... and i'm a ghost!... I am trying to get a card or loan but of course every card i apply for returns as a "nope" cause my file's too thin... So maybe I am applying to the wrong cards? Or is it just impossible to get a card when you are a ghost?

I think it'd be helpful if you could provide more information on what cards you have now, what your AAoA is, inquiries, all that sort of stuff. You need to be patient and if you already do have a card, keep working with that and building up your history and in no time, you'll be able to get approved for much better cards in the future.

......

and I hope you're not trolling with this post, "ghost."

I hope you use the term "ghost" loosely. There was a story about that not too long ago and it just ran through my mind

But regardless

I got offered a CC from 1FBUSA back in summer of 2012 with a starting out CL of $250. Every 6 months, I would get a CLI of $1000. About two years or so after I got approved for Discover IT and Chase Freedom and have the credit score I have now. 1FBUSA is a card geared toward students though.
Cards:
1FBUSA: 5.75k
Discover IT (for students): 4.6k
Chase Freedom (signature): 5k
Target REDcard: 1.5k
AmEx BlueCash Everyday: 5.5k

FICOs:
TU - 785 (December 2015)

It can be possible but if you're not having any luck the standard advice is check into credit unions with more lax approval criteria and/or go secured. Be careful with the apps as the hard pulls have more of an impact with a thin file.

Then find a secured card that doesn't require a credit check. I don't keep a list of them handy but they're a relatively common topic on at least the other sites. I don't recall seeing as many threads on the topic here.
