December 2014 Garden Cult/Club

Postby CarefulBuilder14 » Mon Dec 01, 2014 2:00 pm

Chanting, snacks, mind-altering beverages. You know the drill. Sane behavior for some, a cult-like obsession for others, and a source of entertainment and mockery.

Anyone have news?

I've only been in the garden for about two weeks. My AAoA is back under 6 months, but it's more resilient now with 6 cards, total. No apps planned for the rest of 2014, although an ED or EDP is likely for January 2015.
Wallet: Prestige CSP SchwabPlat Freedom It Hyatt SallieMae AAPlat
SD: Arrival BrooksBros BCE ED IHG
Letting new accounts cool off since May
Really not sure what I'll add next or when

After seven months of carefully tending my garden, I am going to leave to apply for the Citi Double Cash. I have some big purchases on the horizon that won't fall under any specific category, so I figure it's the best way to get the most cash back with the least hassle.

I promise I will self flagellate to atone for this.
Cards:

-Capital One Quicksilver
-Barclaycard Arrival (no AF)
- US Bank (no rewards)
-IHG

Discover has again taken adverse action against me. Requested CLI last month and got denied. They still say length of time account open is the reason of denial, but it has been over 6 months. Anyway wouldn't be trying again this year.

My latest inquiry should turn 6 months by Dec 18th. Can't wait to get that gold spade!
Citi Forward Visa $5000 10/2012 | American Express Blue Cash Everyday $8000 2/2014 | Discover it $7000 5/2014
Chase Freedom Visa Signature $7000 6/2014 | Citi ThankYou Premier Visa Signature $5000 1/2015
All EMV.

They were giving me that same reason up until recently. Now they're just denying me for new accounts and I just sock drawered mine after that. No more of putting up with their games for me.

Garden, Schmarden....!

I drank the Diners Club Kool-Aid, and applied for the Diners Club Card Premier. Applied/got approved/received the card all in 10 days. Score of 806 on TU/approved with a $50K limit. Insanity still reigns....
Retired, and in the process of retiring cards!

I'm definitely gardening now. I don't need any more cards, not even for fun. I just finished my $3k spend on the AmEx Platinum (nothing like needing six new tires for your truck). And, due to the fact that we travel full-time and have mail forwarded to us, my CSP is still sitting in my mailbox awaiting forwarding instructions. I'll be back at my work location in about a week and will have it forwarded there. Holiday travel and a trip to Disney in January ought to take care of that card's spend.

The other reason I'm gardening is to see what my FICOs do over time. I had been semi-relying on my CK FAKO score, which I found was terribly over-stated (it's sitting at 785 now, but my FICOs are in the low 700's).
AmEx - Platinum (NPSL) , Blue Cash Preferred ($19,000), Gold Delta Skymiles ($8,500)
Chase - Sapphire Preferred ($14,000), Disney ($11,500), Amazon.com ($9,000), Freedom ($8,000)
CapOne - QuickSilver ($7,250) / Platinum Rewards ($7,250)

Right now there's just nothing that I really want right now so for now, yeah, count me in the garden.

Killed off 2 dead weight cards. Expecting a big CLI with USAA this month though. Other than that, I'm done until next year.
