Signup Bonus Question

Postby credit-utopia » Sun Nov 23, 2014 2:43 pm

If a CC has a signup bonus that comes as a statement credit, does there need to be a balance on the card when they apply the bonus?

Just as an example let's say the sign on bonus says it comes as a statement credit after spending a certain amount, but when the bonus comes in you had already paid in full. Will that give you a negative balance, or will it not be applied since there is no balance to apply it to?

I hope that made sense :)

They'll probably post the credit and if there are no offsetting charges in a month or two, they will send you a check.

If it's just a statement credit, yes. If it's a credit to be applied against a particular purchase, maybe not.

OP: there's a phone number on the back of your card. Call. Ask.

The terms of the bonus offer should also indicate the requirements. OP -- you can't just rely on generalizations. Offers are not all the same.

Which card are you asking about?
