Chase has been generous

Postby paparoach429 » Mon Nov 10, 2014 10:36 pm

So about a year and a half ago some of you guys might have remembered my thread about getting rejected for both the Sapphire Preferred and Freedom. I ended up reconing and talking them into approving me for both with limits of 5k and 3k. Through the course of the year and a half they've given me automatic increases on my freedom from 3k to 3.3k and then to 3.8k. On the Sapphire I requested an increase from 5k to 9k and was approved about a year ago and then the other day I signed into my creditkarma to find a nice surprise of them auto increasing me from 9k to 13k! I think that was pretty damn good considering I'm only 22. At the time I got approved for the cards I was making about 45k a year and then lost my job. This year I've made less but currently got a promotion thats going to earn me about 70k a year. I think what really helped was meticulously managing my credit and maxing the Sapphire out (when I put that motorcycle purchase on my credit card, some of you guys might remember that thread too) and paying that off in full the next month. Anyways,I just thought I would share that with you guys!

Congratulations. Good on ya. I logged into Chase the other day to find I had received an unrequested increase on my Sapphire Preferred of 1K.. This was a bit surprising since last month I accidentally under paid them. I left out a zero making the payment and what was sent was even less than the minimum payment. You can imagine just how upsetting that was. I knew it wouldn't be reported, but I have a great rate with them and didn't want to lose it. I called them up and the guy was like, "no problem" and removed the late fee. He said it wouldn't hurt my rate either. I use the hell out of my Chase cards and that may be the reason they were so understanding.

Nice job there. I can agree 100% that Chase can be quite generous once you get in with them and have used their cards enough well along with good payment history and all of that. Before August, I couldn't get anything with them and then to my surprise, a 5k starting limit on my first card after a few days of my app being pending with them and explaining to recon why I wanted the card and two months later, I was able to get another card after a week of verification. This story really reassures me that this isn't the last time that I'm going to see this kind of stuff from Chase happen.

They've increased the credit limits they've given me on initial app for each of the four cards I have from them over the last several months:

Apr 2014 - Disney - 7000, CLI in Aug to 11500
Sep 2014 - Amazon - 9000
Nov 2014 - Sapphire Preferred - 14000
AmEx - Platinum (NPSL) , Blue Cash Preferred ($19,000), Gold Delta Skymiles ($8,500)
Chase - Sapphire Preferred ($14,000), Disney ($11,500), Amazon.com ($9,000), Freedom ($8,000)
CapOne - QuickSilver ($7,250) / Platinum Rewards ($7,250)

Glad to hear. I hope I have the same good experience. Finally got in with them last month with a Freedom. Extremely low limit though, basically useless, but there isn't much I can do. They've denied me multiple times and when I tried to recon the limit they were just as stern and aggressive with me as the last time I called earlier this year for a recon.

Occasionally Chase does have those pretty mean and aggressive reps that will not budge on anything. I had to deal with two of those but most of the reps (both times for the Amazon Chase card, second time because I didn't realize that you have to wait at least 30 days after your last HP from them to app for a card and the first one was my attempt I made before even going for the Chase Sw card like a month prior) I've talked with have been really nice and understanding. it takes finding the right person and going from there I think. It's still better than having to put up with Citi's normal, often clueless customer service by phone.

On the generosity scale, they are right up there with Amex imo.

Just an update guys, Chase has been generous again. I signed on to my account the other day and they increased my credit limit on my Freedom from $3.8k to $6.8k. Hope you guys are seeing the same generosity!

Congrats! I haven't gotten any CLIs on mine but I did get another card from the recently and pleased with the starting limit too. I can't wait to move some of my SW card's CL over to my AARP in the future.

I'm a little worried though, that over time they are going to start cutting my limits back down seeing as I'm never going to need that much of a credit limit. Do you guys think I should transfer some of my 13k credit limit on my Sapphire Preferred to the Freedom to make the utilization balance a little better?
