Does anyone know if Discover and Synchrony use HP or SP for their CLI requests?

My experience with Discover is it's a soft pull. As I understand it, you go online and hit the "luv" button. Whatever they offer you is a result of a soft pull. If you want a larger increase, it's a hard pull. I think Synchrony is also a soft pull, but someone can correct me if I'm wrong, as I'm sure they will! :ppp

Discover should be a SP unless you explicity give them permission for a HP. I have had two SP experiences with them so far. I asked to request a CLI a few weeks ago. They told me I wasn't eligible to even request it (hadn't been 90 days), but I got a letter explaining why I was declined in the mail later on (which referenced TransUnion). I called to see if my request actually went through, but mainly to make sure they didn't do a HP. After being transferred to some sort of credit expert they confirmed that it wasn't a HP.

I have no idea about Synchrony, but I also tried to find out a couple weeks ago. I sent a secure message for my Walmart card asking whether it would be a SP or HP - I didn't feel like dealing with their customer service over the phone. I also wanted it in writing if they told me it would be a SP but a HP later showed up on my credit report. Their response completely didn’t answer my question, so I sent a follow-up. I still got no information. So I don't know what to tell you about Synchrony - I was very displeased about the interaction. Maybe your best bet is calling in so when they don't answer your question you don't have to wait two days to clarify and two more days for another non-answer. :rant:
