One More (Probably Final) Update

Postby Vattené » Mon Oct 27, 2014 11:08 pm

The card came today! :D

The packaging wasn't nearly as impressive as Discover. It pretty much looked like what my debit card looked like, which was a small disappointment. Ah well, they need to make those Platinum members feel like they're getting something for their $450 I suppose ;) I also noticed that the bottom half is very clear, but the top half is speckled. I would think it shouldn't look like that if my wife's card wasn't exactly the same.

All trivial things, though. More importantly, my APR is 12.99%, the very bottom of the 12.99% - 21.99% range. It's a high water mark in my credit management. I was happy when I got 14.99% from Discover earlier this year. I don't remember if the range differed at the time, but they are currently advertising 10.99% - 22.99%. I guess that isn't really important, either. I don't intend to pay any interest. I also plan on not taking advantage of the 0% 15-month introductory period so I don't lose my PIF discipline. Still, combined with the $11,500 CL I am pretty excited.

If only I needed to buy something today. I don't think I will need to make any purchases tomorrow either. I am eager to swipe the thing, but it will happen soon enough.

Yes, the appearance of the card leaves something to be desired. The BCE also has the speckled, snowy look and it's not great.

If you need something Amex-related to do tonight, you can set up your free ShopRunner membership that comes with Amex membership. I don't know the details of how it works with joint/AU cards though - it might be limited to one account in either your name or your wife's.

Congrats on your new Amex card and it came with a really nice limit too. I hope you'll enjoy it a lot.

Thanks! I was hoping I would get more than my current Discover limit, but never would have thought I'd break 5 digits!

I will need to set up ShopRunner. I don't do much online shopping, but it will be nice to have set up if I can ever make use of it.

That's another good perk of being a member with Amex. I was already getting a free Shoprunner membership before because the website offered it but it's so great to know that I won't have to be paying roughly 80 bucks a year for it now.
