Not sure I want to be 'complete' if it means applying for a card I will likely never use.

Besides, what card would I get to compliment my current staple of Amex and Visa? Mastercard??!!

It's pretty much pointless for you to go for anything else. I really wouldn't even advise it in your case.

With the kinds of cards you have, I don't think you'd ever need to unless you seriously want to collect every damn Comenity card under the sun like some folks at MyFico do and ding your AAoA in the process. There's one person that has over 100 cards over there. I'm serious.

I believe you. Some of them have just an insane amount of cards.

I personally could not manage that. I don't even think I could manage 10, and in fact what I have now is more than I ideally want to manage. It could be a personal limitation, but that's just what I've found. I just don't really want to close any of them. But it's honestly more than I need or really want. And i don't make/spend enough on them to feed them all either.

Thanks. That's sound advise.

I left Costco yesterday and they were pushing Cap1 Mastercard as they have the contract now with Costco after 15 years with Amex.

The gal told me I need the card as my Amex is useless after Dec 31st. Technically she is right as Costco will no longer accept Amex.

I smiled at her and told her I have a plan to 'delay' having to sign up with cap1. Proceed to tell her I will try to use my so called useless Amex to purchase a few thousand dollars of Costco cash cards (if that's possible) and draw them down. LOL.

It was a quick idea that popped into my head. I don't know if that will work but neither did she so suffice to say she was stunned and stopped bugging me to sign up.

:)

That's the first time my jaw has ever dropped while reading a thread here.

If they take MC in the future, that's one more use for an Arrival+.

Edit: It looks like this is only a change in Canada, and doesn't affect US Costco stores. For now, at least...

I don't know if I would survive if Costco switched to MasterCard. Costco=Amex is one of the founding principles of my weltanschauung.

This is my point exactly...

The change from Amex to Cap1 after 15 years in Canada is absolutely obsurd.

I believe Amex dropped the ball on this. Also hope Amex does not do the same in the US.

But this alone won't make me apply for another creditcard especially a Mastercard.

I think i would just use debit and call it a day. Really can't see me using a mastercard anywhere other than Costco.

Nothing per say, just 2 HPs in as many months and $27,500 in new available credit line.
And I am kicking myself because I bought airline tickets with my PRG, and now find no way to get the points in to US Air.
I would do AmEx -> Aeroplane -> Points.com -> US Air ... but that requires 15,000 pts to start.
I will have 5k at the end of October.

Should have bought the tickets on Orbitz through Shop Discover for 6% Cash Back.
...but maybe if I...

Some times I just hate myself.

Well, for me airline loyalty doesn't make sense. Accumulating MR points might make sense in months before I plan to buy a ticket. I'm more focused on getting my basic set (Sallie, Freedom, It, BCE, Arrival+). Then I'll reevaluate travel hacking. With that set of cards, any airline cards (or a CSP) would just be for signup bonuses and would not be regular spending cards.

If MR points become more flexible and have more transfer partners, an EDP could be an option. It looks well worth the AF for anyone with my spending who likes MR points.

It appears some here have hesitation on collecting MR points.

Why is this?

I have always thought MR points are easy to use.
