Marriott Visa

Postby ricardon » Fri Sep 26, 2014 11:24 pm

Hello Everyone,

I need some help. My credit is bad. in August of 2013. I got a car finance Although It had to be with a cosigner. In all of this Time I have made all my payments on time. A couple of Days ago I got a Marriott Visa invitation. But I don't know if is a good idea to apply for it. My credit score is 616. And don't know if they would accept Me with that score. So does anybody know what would be the least score for them to accept My application? Because don't want to apply and be deny and have My score affected.

I looked at some of the pull info on creditboards. Most people with FICOs around 650 are getting initially declined, but get approved on recon.

Since people with moderately better credit than you have a hard time getting the card, I think it would be best to look for a different card you are more likely to qualify for. Of course, nothing is guaranteed, and you might get approved, but I don't like your odds.
Very useful: SchwabPlat, CSP, IHG, Costco (was AA Plat), Freedom, SPG, Prestige (retention)
Somewhat useful: Discover, ED (was EDP), BCE, Hyatt
SD with activity alerts, might close: Arrival

Might add: Proper business card, CSR, Ritz, Delta Gold, First Tech, BofA Travel PH, Aviator Red

If that's your FICO score, then you still have plenty of work to do before getting anything with Chase. Try to at least get your score above 650 and go from there, and especially check if you have any prequalified offers then. Do you have any other cards?

Nothing especial. Just because I got the invitation. But nothing in particular.

Getting a mail invitation - even with a good signup bonus - is not a good reason to apply for a card.

Think of the incentives - Chase wants to have customers carrying the card and paying annual fees. It costs them very little to mail out invitations. Reviewing your application takes a computer a few seconds or an analyst a few minutes.

If they think you'd be a risky borrower, they lose nothing by declining you. They may annoy you and make you not want to deal with Chase in the future, but not many banks would want a customer with a 616 FICO anyway (assuming it is a FICO).

You, on the other hand, would have your score suffer from a hard pull for a card you don't want.

The card itself does look like a pretty good deal: http://creditcardforum.com/rewards/1038-2014-marriott-credit-card-dont-apply-without-seeing.html

Agreed, if you stay at Marriott properties then this card is worth it. I only use it for Marriott hotels, nothing else. The $85 annual fee pays for itself with elite credit and free night certificate. For example, earlier this month I used my free night at the Cat 5 Santa Clara Marriott which would have cost me $348+taxes for the night. Great hotel if you want to visit the new Levi's Stadium for a 49ers game.

I'd check the Chase prequalify site and see if you have an offer for the card. If you do I'd app. You might well get declined, but you could recon. I've recon'd as many as three times for the Freedom so it's very possible. Then again I had a lot higher score and a reasonably thick file too so I'm sure that helped the cause. But I'd check that site and give it a shot if you see it there for you. At the very least if you recon they should tell you about what they are looking for so you know where you need to be to get it so it's worth it for that if nothing else.
