Do I have to use both my cards? - Newbie question

Postby supermammal » Wed Sep 24, 2014 1:12 pm

I'm working on rebuilding my credit. I started with a secured card and now have an unsecured card. Do I need to use both every month or just 1 card to increase my credit score? And if I use 1 card, having <10% utilization, is that for the card or my total available credit?

You don't "have" to use the second card. If you want to be absolutely safe, for highest score let ONE card report a small balance every month. That does NOT mean you have to pay interest just pay it off after the balance reports.

As far as score and utliziation, FICO says you want to keep it low on every card as well as overall, meaning they apparently consider both in generating a score.
