Well that's sad. I was just approved for a Citi Best Buy card. Have been denied by Citi twice in the past.

Thought I was making progress!

The ones which amaze me are the obscure banks and especially credit unions which go viral over there. Imagine you're an underwriter at a small credit union and you average maybe 20 credit card apps a week. Sure, you might be a little more generous with CL's, but cards aren't a big part of the CU's portfolio. You might not even be the only analyst who reviews credit card apps- your CU is small so everyone does mortgages/auto loans/personal loans, etc. All of a sudden, you go from 20 apps a week to 50, then 500 then 7000 and so on... you... you would think these credit unions would be cautious initially instead of waiting until the "fixmycredit's" jump into the pond...

I just checked on myfico and it really is incredible...almost half the threads in the credit card section have 'NASA' in the title.

The card caught on, and people started apping heavily. The credit union staff got uneasy, and started manually declining people who were approved by the computer.

And then the flood of recon calls.
Keeping indefinitely: IHG, SchwabPlat, CSP, Discover, Freedom, ED, BCE, Hyatt
May close or PC: Prestige, Arrival, BrooksBros
AA Platinum converting into Costco

Might add: Proper business card, CSR, Ritz, Delta Gold, First Tech
Letting new accounts cool off since May

Yup. It's been nuts over there. People are mainly getting the cards for their utilization and the rewards from what I can tell. I even got curious and tried it to see if it would really be a SP for the membership and card app and was surprised that it was and to take advantage of such an opportunity. Glad I didn't get the card I chose seeing as what's been happening to a lot of people so some of this was too good to be true.

Wow. I hadn't bothered reading over there in some time. I was stunned at how many posts are devoted to that card. It really is the craze/flavor of the week over there.

Honeslty it reminds me of the Duck Card when OCCU was handing out 10 to 20k limits to people who probably can't handle 5k limits without getting in trouble.

Anything that sounds too good to be true probably is - just ask the folks who got the OCCU cards then had them yanked away from them a couple of months later with lies and games.

No thanks I'll pass, Chase and Amex may be boring but at least you know what you are getting into with them. With these weirdo credit unions you just never know.

I've heard some pretty bad things about FCU's online system from a few people. I'm assuming credit unions like DCU or PenFed dont have as many of these issues and higher underwriting standards.
