Advice to track down a lost debt...

Postby lobbythis » Sat Sep 20, 2014 1:54 am

Odd situation and I did a quick search, but couldn't find my situation.

Anyways, I am 100% debt free with the exception of a card that was eventually sent to an agency who was shut down for fraud 2-3 years ago. I forgot the name, but I'm sure some of you know something about this place. They used to called people with threats if they didn't pay their bill in 24 hours. They were located in southern California, but I forgot the name.

Anyways, after talking to the original CC company and the first collection agency it was sent to, no one has been able to help me and this sh!t is stuck sitting on my credit report as delinquent. No one has any idea how to get this paid off and I am totally lost. I applied for two new CC's and both letters said I was denied mentioning a "major delinquency".

Can this ever be removed? I'm just lost and pissed off because it's only around $500 and it's destroying my credit.

Try disputing it with the credit bureaus. May or may not work but worth a shot.

Otherwise it falls off after 7 years.

Actually a very good idea. If the company no longer exists, they can't respond to a verification request.

Yea, I submitted a request to have it removed about 5-6 months ago since it can no longer be verified, but have never heard anything back.

CRAs are required to respond within 30 days. If they didn't, file a complaint with the CFPB.
