Garden Pruning

Postby Yoshiofthewire » Tue Sep 02, 2014 10:34 pm

I'm thinking about Pruning my Cards. I am an AU on almost all my wife's CCs.
She added me early on about when we were married.
We are currently separated for work reasons.
I am thinking of getting myself off her cards.
Would this be a bad idea?

AU cards:
Sears Visa: $500 Max, '03
BoA Visa: $1500 Max, '04
Chase Disney: $10,000 Max, '07
(Before I looked at my Credit report, I thought the Chase was shared)

I also have one of the POS Store cards because I was an idiot.

Just keep yourself as an AU on them, there's no reason not to unless your relationship is in the brink of disaster. 10 year old cards can't possibly cause any damage to your credit report. Also, sure, the Sears card isn't a prestigious card or anything, but any card in good standing without an AF is worth keeping if it's got decent rewards. I'm sure the Sears is useful every now and then.
FICO TU - 728 - 8/14
FICO EX - 716 - 7/14

American Express Blue Cash Everyday - $8,000
American Express Everyday - $10,000
Discover It Chrome - $500 (AU on fiancée's card, helping her build credit)
American Express Platinum - NPSL
Barclaycard Arrival+ - $3,000
Capital One Yamacard - $11,000

I haven't used, or even had access to the AU cards for years.
I think my Wife may use them, but I doubt it.
She got a US Airways Card with a $15K limit.
Since US Air is the only direct airline from her to me, it makes sense.

Maybe I should get the Chase Disney and put it in my lock box, as a backup.
Just in case.

You've had that thing for 11 years and it's still at 500 bucks? What are they, Cap One?

I'd DUMP that card yesterday, IF you have asked for a grown up limit and been denied and you use it, OR if you just never use it and don't see yourself using it.

With a 10k limit on the Chase, I'd see if you could PC it to something more useful to you. Also with the BofA Visa you've had that 10 years and still have a pretty low limit I would not lose any sleep over losing that one either.
