I've had this Amex Cash Rebate Card since 2002, which I've always thought had a good looking design. The rewards program is substandard so I don't use it much but have never cancelled it since it's my oldest card. I've called to pc before but Blue Cash was the only thing they would move me to at the time, though I wanted to trade to Costco TrueEarnings or Starwood Preferred Guest. Does anyone know if a pc resets the clock on an account or does the original open date remain at the bureau?https://www295.americanexpress.com/cards/npz.do?pmccode=67#CARDS/67/1/0/0
A PC keeps the same account open with the same credit limit. It keeps the original opening date. The APR, I think, could change as different cards have different ranges. The rewards may be lost or converted favorably or unfavorably into a different rewards system.
Applying for a new card would have backdating which might help for FICO scoring purposes, and would show an old opening date, but only have payment data for the months it was actually open (and used).
Very useful: SchwabPlat, CSP, IHG, Costco (was AA Plat), Freedom, SPG
Somewhat useful: Discover, ED (was EDP), BCE, Hyatt, Arrival
May close or PC: Prestige, BrooksBros
Might add: Proper business card, CSR, Ritz, Delta Gold, First Tech
