Shopping cart trick? Shocking confession...

Postby otter » Fri Aug 22, 2014 11:44 pm

Earlier today... I started feeling a bit sick, so I took a double dose of nyquil. Okay, it was a little bit more than a double dose, plus I chased it with a few of your standard diphenhydramine-containing OTC sleep aid. So I became comfortably numb and went to bed. When I awoke, still with a pleasant buzz, I felt the urge to drapp. What could I do? I want to buy a new car before the winter and the last thing I need right now is a lot of new inquiries. One word... shopping cart trick...

Okay so that was three words, but you get the point. So I signed up for the Total Rewards website and logged in and out a bunch of times and put a bunch of gift cards in the cart and nothing happened. Maybe I should go for one of the store cards, but everyone knows my thoughts on store cards.

I decided to head for the Sportsman;s Guide website. I signed up there and filled up the shopping cart to the tune of $8000. I don't own a gun, but I ordered as if I owned 30 guns. I went to the check-out and to my surprise a small window pops up. So of course I applied- what the hell, I have two backdated Amex cards (member since 1991) so I figured it woudn't hurt my AAoA too much. Surprise! $8000! I knew I should have added a few more gun racks for the guns I don't own for the pickup truck I don't own but oh well, Went to the commenity website and hit the luv button... shoot! 7-10 day message. Oh well, I guess I can live with an $8000 limit without a hard pull. If I can get it up to $10000, I think I'll kick the OCCU duck to the curb.Oh yeah, I didn't actually go through with the purchase. Maybe I'll try for the total rewards card again before the night is over, but I'll probably go to bed since the room is kinda spinning.
In my Wallet:
  • Amex PRG NPSL[3-14, bd 91]
  • Sallie Mae MC $8000[1-14]
  • Chase Freedom $4700[1-14]
  • Discover It $2750[8-13]

  • Barclaycard Arrival WEMC $7000[3-14]
  • BoA Better Balance $3000[2-15]

When drapping (or diphenylhydrapping), shoppingartrick is a real word. At least it should be.

I must confess to a little shopping cart behavior...Brooks Brothers website...no bite from Synchrony...so no purchase...will use MR-sourced gift card instead.

Okay. I confess too. Couple of months ago, out of curiosity, I randomly decided to see if the shopping cart trick thing was actually real and could actually work for me and quite frankly I didn't get anything so I didn't bother to go beyond that. No pop ups or anything no matter which browser I used.

Same, due to the fact I live in an apartment complex. I never get shopping cart trick offers, I can't get any card offers through cardmatch, I can't sign up for Quizzle, etc etc. I looked through the list of cards and there's not a single one I'd care to own, though. I already have a ton of available credit and really don't need more, other than for the purpose of rewards or sign up bonuses.

I haven't been able to get Quizzle to work, but I can get CK, credit sesame, and credit.com. What's funny about Quizzle?

They can't verify my identity and ask my those security questions about loans and whatnot, but they're not about my credit file. Same thing when I try to get my credit reports online. They either say to call in it give me the questions and they aren't related to me.

I have the same problem. I think they site may only update your credit file once or twice a year, and 6 months ago I had a very short history and no actual FICO.

I've gotten CardMatch offers before but they've always been for Capital One and First Premier and I was able to sign up for Quizzle even though I also live in an apartment right now. I found their score to be pretty useless besides the fact they pull from Equifax.

This is true. Quizzle updates report and score half a year, though monitor credit.

CardMatch shows ALL cards "you are more likely to be approved" based on their criteria, so with an OK credit or above it seems like there are always First Premier and Capital One subprime cards listed.

Quizzle's score is VantageScore 3.0.
Citi Forward Visa $5000 10/2012 | American Express Blue Cash Everyday $8000 2/2014 | Discover it $7000 5/2014
Chase Freedom Visa Signature $7000 6/2014 | Citi ThankYou Premier Visa Signature $5000 1/2015
All EMV.

I see. So basically CardMatch is just a giant advertisement for Capital One cards no matter what your TU credit score is in a lot of cases. Yeah........very glad I took that website with a grain of salt.
