Which card should I keep after consolidation?

Postby thegameksk » Thu Aug 21, 2014 11:37 am

Hey all. I have 3 chase cards that I want to combine into one. I'm not sure if I should combine them into my Amazon Visa or my Chase Freedom? I shop at amazon but I l also already have a Discover card.

I'd close the Amazon Visa. If you want Amazon discounts, replace it with a Sallie Mae MC. Keep the Freedom and Discover cards open.
Wallet: Prestige CSP SchwabPlat Freedom It Hyatt SallieMae AAPlat
SD: Arrival BrooksBros BCE ED IHG
Letting new accounts cool off since May
Really not sure what I'll add next or when

It really depends. Because you have a Discover, that often gives you the same 5% categories as Freedom (they are usually pretty close if not identical). If you spend a good sum on Amazon, Freedom gives you at most 5% one quarter a year (though the Christmas quarter) on a max spend of 1500, where you get 3% all year any amount on the Amazon Visa. So you can do the math and determine which one will give you better return based on your spend. If you spend heavily on Amazon, that might pay you back better, and you get other rewards though at a lower rate too, where the Freedom is really a 5% category/1% everything else card.

So I'd consider your spend before you decide which one fits you better.
