I carry all that are in my signature. It's 1 or 2 more than I really want, but I just don't feel like closing any of them.

My dad has a "George Costanza" wallet...lol. I can't handle that myself.

The only cards I always have in my wallet are Drivers Licence, Military ID & Sam's Club. I also have a few of my business cards and sometimes cash. My ATM card is in my car.

Right now I'm carrying:
Discover IT
CSP
Amex Platinum & BCP

Tonight I'm headed to the airport to pick my family up so I'll grab my Citi AA card so I can wait in the Admirals Club. I'll probably take the BCP out at the same time as I am maxed out on 6% groceries and gas is on Discover this quarter. I normally don't carry the Platinum around but I wanted to see if I would use it more if I did --not so much.
American Express (2005): Premier Rewards Gold & Blue Cash Preferred
Chase: Freedom & UA Club USAA: Signature Visa & American Express
Discover it Bank of Hawaii Hawaiian Airlines WEMC Synchrony Sam's MC
Navy FCU Platinum Visa Citi Double Cash & AT&T Access MC

Right now, I am carrying:

My brand spanking new Discover IT, Freedom, Amex, and Macy's. Macy's is going back in the sock drawer and I am going to replace it with my Barclay's HAL card since they were so sweet to raise my limit $2200 yesterday. Without my asking. I figure they should get a couple of months of swipe fees for that. :money:
Cards and Credit lines Acquired:

Escape by Discover (7.75K), Barclay Holland America Visa (7K), Macy's store card (7K), Bloomingdale's store card (2.6K), Citi Custom Credit Line (3.5K), PayPal Smart Connect credit line (2.7K), Chase Freedom Visa (5K), Chase United MileagePlus Visa (5K), Chase Sapphire Preferred Visa (6K), Amazon store card (2.2K), Lord & Taylor store card (550), Nordstrom store card (1500), Gold Delta SkyMiles from American Express (3K), Discover It (6.5K), PayPal Credit Line (1K).

You've got that right, itsmeadnrew...why carry more than two cards? You may like American Express, but if the vendor does not accept it, or argues that he must charge you a bit more because of the high merchant fees, you use a Visa or MasterCard: but you only need to carry ONE Visa or MasterCard (probably the one with the lowest balance on it, or the lower interest rate). And...if you should lose your wallet, you will not have lost all your cards at the same time!

Although that is a bonus, some people go their entire lives without losing their wallet. I'd rather carry all my cards around and get the best possible rewards for each type of spending. I don't have all my cards with me (usually carry BCE, ED, and BoA 3-2-1), but I do bring different ones along depending on what I'm going to be doing.
FICO TU - 728 - 8/14
FICO EX - 716 - 7/14
FICO EQ - 740 - 7/14

Bank of America Cash Rewards - $2,400
Best Buy - $3,000
American Express Blue Cash Everyday - $8,000
American Express Everyday - $10,000
Discover It Chrome - $500 (AU on fiancée's card, helping her build credit)
American Express Platinum - NPSL
Barclaycard Arrival+ - $3,000
Capital One Yamacard - $11,000

I generally only carry the ones I regularly use but I'm up to 7 and could pare that down to about 4. It varies given the two rotators that I have. They're not of much use for the this quarter but if both were useful I'd carry 6.

There's no one "right" that suits everyone. If 2 works for you that's great but you can't just assume that what works for you works for everyone.
