700+ CK Score, options?

Postby czannah » Mon Aug 11, 2014 5:08 pm

So my CreditKarma appears to have updated and i'm over 700 on their FAKO score. Anyway, im wondering whats going to work best for me, I have a few inquiries that will fall off in about 2 years. I'm wondering if it will be best to wait on those to fall off, (increasing my AAoA in the process) or work on increasing my CLI's (Which will result in more inquiries). Thoughts?

Increasing CLIs for the sake of increasing CLIs is pretty useless. That being said, if you have a good enough score, you can apply for an AmEx card. Their backdating will come in handy in the future when you open new cards with them, and their 3x CLI soft pull is pretty great as well. Your call.

Mmm. I primarily do it for the reason that I have almost always seen a bump in my score on CLI's, even till today. In addition, the majority of people that I have heard of who have near 800's have significant credit limits.

I will consider an amex card, how well accepted are they in the US and worldwide?

US acceptance is great, I've never been unable to use my AmEx. Worldwide, not as good, but major stores will take AmEx, just don't expect to use it at some small restaurant in a tiny city somewhere. I believe Mastercard has the best acceptance rate, but don't quote me on that.

Amex has been pretty good. Besides a few websites like my cable provider only taking Visa, Mastercard and Discover for their bill pay services, I've been able to use my cards with them in most situations and places.
