planning to travel a lot to build up points and choose the right card?

Postby loserguy » Sat Aug 02, 2014 4:36 pm

Hey guys,

My wife and I are going to cancun and I do not have a foreign transaction fee credit card yet. After this trip, we may be go to Vegas in March 2015 or so but I plan to do a lot of traveling out of my pocket starting Feb 2016-May 2016 for board reviews and for interviews. I spend about $1500 every month and I pay off my credit card every month. I currently only have an AMEX blue cash back card. What strategy should I employ and what cards should I start using to optimize travel points for the future. I have been doing some research and the chase sapphire preferred is promising but I will have to pay a $95 annual fee if this time next year if I sign up for it now.

Consider what airlines you will be using and what hotels you are interested in and if the card fits, then get/use it.

As far as the CSP, they are raising the annual fee from what I read, and the 7% annual dividend is also going away. Just an FYI. On the other hand, the free year and sign up bonus make it tempting. Just depends on the airlines and hotels you plan to use.
