Credit Company used old credit report for CLI decision

Postby moxie » Sun Jul 27, 2014 10:48 pm

In June, I was able to get 2 collections accounts deleted from all 3 credit reports. About 3 weeks later, I decided to hit the CLI button on my Citi Forward card (soft pull - stated it would not require an inquiry) but was denied. The letter that came a few days later stated the denial reason was due to a negative account such as collections on my Equifax report. I pulled my report again and it showed no negative accounts. From the inquiry history, it looks like Citi most likely used an old report from the beginning of June before the accounts were deleted.

Is there any positive chance I can call to have them reconsider using a more updated soft pull or would it have to be a hard inquiry to ensure they're looking at my report without the negative accounts? Thanks in advance!

I would think so, but it would probably be easier just to call and ask.

I would still be wary of hard pulls as it's always a risk no matter what they tell you I've read numerous stories of people being told by CSRs this isn't a hard pull, then it turns out they get a hard pull.

I agree with Member, I don't trust most CSRs--esp the ones at Citi. If you need the CLI you may have to risk it, if you just want it, I would wait another three months and try again.

Good luck!
