Bank opened a dispute charge on my behalf without my knowledge

Postby belle » Fri Jun 27, 2014 1:52 pm

About 2 years ago my young daughter was able to make in-app purchases on her dad's iPhone which added up to almost $300. We immediately went to the bank to see what we could do about reversing the charge and we were sent away with a refusal to reverse the charges by the bank.

A few months ago I received a letter from apple about unauthorized in-app purchases made by minors and that I may be able to get a refund on those charges. So I called apple iTunes and I was approved for the refund.

I called apple about a week later to find out what the status of the refund was because I haven't received it yet. Apple informed me that they had sent the refund but my bank had returned it to them as a "chargeback" on the refund. I called my bank and they were not able to give me info on the refund transaction. I had to leave on a trip afterwards so I left it at that for a while.

Today I called apple to see what my next steps would be. The apple rep then informed me that my banks had opened a dispute of the charge after I had spoke to them and after apple had already tried to refund me. I did not authorize this dispute. I don't know what's going on.

It's Friday night and bank reopens Monday. Hopefully someone can clue me in ad to what remedy I might have

You may need a lawyer. Few of us are legal experts. I'd suggest a common sense discussion of sanity with the bank, but I know that simply does not exist within corporate America and would be an exercise in futility. Thus I'm not sure what else to suggest but a legal opinion in the matter.
