Shipping a credit card

Postby Jeremyf » Wed May 28, 2014 1:09 pm

A guest recently left their credit card at my hotel. Is it illegal to ship via fed-ex, if the guest provides written consent? I am being told it is illegal.

Thanks!

That's interesting, I've had friends send me alcohol bottles through USPS (not sold here in California) and hahah shipping alcohol through USPS is big time illegal.

If you think about it she-he is better of getting a replacement card (free)

It's not illegal, but it'd be better for the guest to call the issuer to have it cancelled and have a new one shipped to them.

It could potentially get you in hot water if the person you ship it to isn't actually the cardholder.

This scenario makes no sense at all. Why would you or he pay to FedEx something the issuer will happily replace for free and usually in a hurry.

I've gone out of my way (not that far, but driven an hour) to retrieve a card. Having it replaced meant that the issuer issues a new number which is a pain.

I'll give you that.

I drove a two hour round-trip once to get a card I left a bar the previous night. My thinking was I was going to have to settle my tab; as it turned out the bartender just charged my card at the end of his shift and left the receipt with it. He didn't even tip himself for his troubles...
