Forced to use EMV

Postby rockyrock » Tue May 27, 2014 9:01 am

I was at both Walmart and Sam's yesterday and both forced me to insert my card vice swiping it. First at Sam's I swiped a second time just to be sure. Afterward when I went to Walmart I just automatically inserted.

Sam's made me sign but not Walmart. I think the sign threshold at Walmart may be up to $50 now which makes the transactions move much quicker. Sam's may be the same but I spent >$50 so I can't be sure.

Two of the four cards I carry are chipped so I guess this will be happening more and more.

Yeah I have used EMV at Wal-Mart a couple of times. Slower processing than EMV in Europe, I noticed.

Sam's made me do EMV last time as well. Was kind of frustrating because the EMV reader was acting up and it took several tries with a giant line behind me.

I haven't used that yet considering I live 30 mins. from the nearest Wal-Mart and I don't go to Sams too often. But I'm sure as it rolls out I will come across it.

I am patiently waiting for Target to activate their EMV feature. I can see the machine is upgraded, but they have a piece of plastic covering the slot.

I refuse to shop at Wal-Mart :-) They are too evil for my liking. Haven't given them my business in over 4 years. Glad to see retailers are pushing forward with EMV before the October, 2015 date though.
