Default Emblem credit card a ripoff or not?

There is an offer from Jefferson Capital Systems, LLC for "Emblem Fresh Start Solution Program". You get an Emblem credit card for paying off an old charged off debt. I have an old Sprint account that went to collections and was interested in getting it taken care of through this program. Another message board talked about someone in a similar situation getting the offer for the Emblem card for a Sprint debt.

Everything I have read about it sounds to be legit but then I saw a complaint on Ripoff Report about the Emblem credit card program saying its not living up to expectations or promises. Should this be cause for concern? If I should do it how or where can I apply? The website for the card doesn't have an application I can find.

Just my two (copper) pennies: As a front-end web developer, I don't and won't trust a website that looks like that one.

I mean: Copyright © 2009 Domain Name Acquisitions, LLC. All Rights Reserved.

Domain Name Acquisitions?! What does that have to do with debt collections and Emblem Card?

And the general unprofessional look just rubs me the wrong way.

    Aside from that:

The people and company who run this card offer and program are a debt consolidation company (nothing wrong with that), but the very fact it IS a debt consolidation program RUNNING this makes me kind of go ergh. They're basically making money by buying people's debts and getting people to pay back these debts by offering a credit card in the end of the deal.

Here's what someone posted (not here) about the program:

The Emblem Credit Cards was made possible through Jefferson Capital Solutions, LLC, which is a debt collection agency.
Instead of the ordinary debt collection agency collecting money, they have made an agreement with Montery County Bank to issue a Credit Card to you upon the completion of their program.

The way it works is, they purchase bad debt and collect on it but, they make you an offer, you pay a fraction of your debt on a monthly payment plan to them, you must be on time and not one payment can be missed. Then, after you have completed your part, they transfer a portion to the credit card that Monterey County Bank is issuing and then the right off the remainder of the debt. So, my total debt was $700, I paid $241, they issued an unsecured Mastercard for $262 and transferred $220 onto my card, giving me a small avaliable credit, then the remainding $240 was written off and the debt is mark Paid on my credit report. Now with a new start I can start rebuilding my credit. There is no annual fees or fees for having the card, the percentage rate is 0% for the balance that was transferred and 18.99 % for all new debt.

But that is how the program work so. They issue a unsecured credit card.
Basically, it sounds like an incentive program to get people to pay their debts (or some of it) in exchange for a new shiny card IF they make sure to make all of their payments to that debt/that portion of that debt on time.

I do not recall seeing any prior reviews on the forum for a credit card from Emblem. If there are no fees involved and the accounts are reported to the bureaus, it may be an idea worth entertaining. However I recommend further research due to the points mentioned above.

If you have really bad credit, you can also rebuild your credit using secured credit cards.

    Good luck,

    Thumbs down

Please do not sign up for this! My boyfriend the other day received a notice from his bank saying that he overdrafted and there was a charge of 433 dollars plus the bank fee for going over. My boyfriend called right away for he had not charged anything of that amount. The bank explained to him that the charge was for an emblem card and it was charged by Stephanie Stone or something like that. After he fixed everything, I went online and read elsewhere people calling it a scam... It is disgusting that these people can do something like that to hard working people who earn their money in a legit way... Imagine if he would of had that amount of money in the bank... Something similar happened to me twice but it was from USA Platinum or something like that.

    Default 100% legit

Hi everyone I'm new to the forum researching the emblem credit card because I wanted to see how to raise my credit limit with them. I made a deal with Jefferson capital to pay my debt off in exchange for an emblem credit card. I paid my debt in full (no payments) and about a month later sure enough in the mail was my new credit card with a 275$ limit. Now let me point out my credit is horrible and that could be an understatement. I got turned away for a SECURED credit card at my bank that's how bad. But I have had my card for about 5 months now and I love it and I am grateful to emblem for giving me a chance to fix my credit and get my life back in order. The website does look fishy and when I call to pay my bill it's never an American probably outsourced to india or some other country but I have had 0 problems at all. Trust this, pay ur debt and get this card it could be your savior like it is mine. Hope this helps!

Default I love my Emblem Card!

Let me start off by saying I have HORRIBLE credit.. so I just figured I'd take a shot with this company's offer. I paid my balance in full back in April.. and in May I received my Emblem credit card. I only use my card for gas purchases and I pay it off monthly.. so my credit limit has been automatically increased every month. It also started being reported to the 3 credit bureaus in June as good standing, so it is already helping my credit score. I love it!
