22.99% Chase Freedom -- Can I get them to lower my APR?

Postby chasefreedomslave » Thu Apr 10, 2014 2:10 pm

I've had this card since October 2011 and I've been banking with them longer. For 6 months I had an introductory rate of 0%. After that it skyrocketed to 22.99%, which is the highest APR. I've never missed a payment and my credit score is somewhere around 740 yet they have never lowered it. I usually carry a balance and pay it off completely every 4-6 months. I called Chase about 4-5 months ago and asked them to decrease it but they told me they absolutely could not and that they're already offering me the lowest rate available. She said every 6 months they review each account and make that decision. Bull! I didn't really have a rebuttal, so that was it. I called again today and before they could tell me no, I listed all the reasons it should be decreased and informed them I was offered 0% for 18 months on balance transfers and purchases (which I wasn't, but I probably could get it). It was still a no. What the heck?! If it doesn't get lowered I will definitely pay it off and start using a different card or just transfer the balance. I do like the card and the rewards program and would continue using it if they'll work with me. What do I do?

Some have stated that Chase will only offer lower APR's if one applies for a new product. If you go that route Chase is pretty good about transferring limits among cards.

Carrying a balance would probably negate any of the rewards even if your APR was lower.

While that helps has your credit improved since you applied? It's not just a matter of your score. How has your utilization been? Derogs? Other items in your credit?
