Wells Fargo won't honor Discover BT check

Postby daniel2304 » Mon Apr 07, 2014 6:40 pm

Just came back from WF bank and found out surprisingly that WF won't honor any checks from Discover. This is just so weird.

That is weird. I would understand them putting a hold on it but flat out refusing is something else.

Did they offer an explanation? Were you trying to "make a payment" on your credit card i.e. do a balance transfer or were you trying to deposit into a checking or savings and use it more like a cash advance?

I was doing a balance transfer, deposit the check into my checking account. The teller told me that WF had had a hard time to collect from Discover so they don't honor convenience check from Discover. I called Discover and the rep confirmed it too. Discover's rep said other banks are fine but not WF.

That sucks. I used to work for Wells but it has been a long time. I wonder if you could send it in as a payment to the Credit Card directly. When I was there the bank and credit card divisions operated almost completely separately. You can also get Discover to make the BT payment for you by calling their customer service. Good luck.

I want to take some extra cash out too, so I did what nvtech did. Overpay and hope my credit card company will issue a refund check. Hope it works!
