Get a lower American Furniture Warehouse credit card payment?

Postby brockingham » Fri Sep 13, 2013 1:27 pm

American Furniture Warehouse (a small chain in Colorado) my family used to make a rather large purchase. We had to re-locate for work and spent upwards of $9,000 at their store on a couple bedroom sets, living room furniture and other knick-knacks like lamps and rugs (we didn't go overboard or anything, I'm only talking basic things we needed to furnish our place so it was livable).

Stupid me, on impulse I took the application for the American Furniture Warehouse card from Wells Fargo, got approved, and then used it to finance all of this. Right now we have a little over half paid off (~$4,200 balance left) but I don't like that we are paying an interest rate of 27.99% APR. What are my options to get a lower payment that doesn't make me feel like I'm flushing money down the drain?

Is it even possible to transfer this debt to major credit card (like a Visa or MC) even though this is a retail store account?

A balance transfer to Chase Slate is one option.

Oh so you can do a transfer from a store card to a regular card? THAT IS GOOD TO KNOW! I will do it with my Home Depot card while I'm at it.

The funny thing i find about places like American Furniture Warehouse is they are only a good deal if you pay cash. If you finance then that good deal balloons can quickly balloon into a not so good deal when all is said and done.
