Student card APR rates

Postby sdoonan » Sat Nov 12, 2011 8:08 pm

Hi all,

I'm curious to know if student credit cards are prone to getting APR reductions. My CitiForward card is currently 15.24%, which is the lowest. I tried to have it reduced by mailing a letter, which amounted to nothing. Any ideas?
Cards I Carry:

Visa: CitiForward Student (1k CL, 15.24%), Capital One Student Journey Rewards (.5k CL, 19.8%)
Discover: More Student (1k CL, 17.99% regular, current rate 1.9% through 3/6/12) (Primary card at this time)
AMEX: Blue Cash Everyday (2k CL, 21.25%)

I have a Citi forward card as well as a Citi mtvu student card. The mtvu card was at 17.99 so I called up to "cancel it". I was transfered to customer loyalty/customer rentention department. where I told them my Apr was too high and I wanted to close the account if it wasn't lowered. They immediately lowered it to 13.99

Give it a try. Also how long have you been a card holder with Citi?

If you are a good credit card user, you could always negotiate for a lower APR. Check this out
