How do balance transfers on joint credit card accounts work?

Postby zombieswontgetme » Mon Jun 30, 2014 11:28 pm

Hi all, new here.

I'd like to help my fiancé with her credit card debt. My credit is very good, hers not so much. She has about $4k debt across multiple cards.

Can we open a joint credit card (with a 0% BT offer) using my credit score? Will it negatively impact my score and/or help hers?

Is it possible/better to add her and her accounts as an Authorized user? Are there other options I haven't considered?

Thanks for your help!

Define "better". Generally speaking there are more options for adding her as an AU and fewer for joint. If you apply joint it's not just your credit that will matter. If she's an AU then her credit won't factor into the approval decision.

Depends on the usual factors. If you BT enough that the utilization is high it can. If it significantly drops your AAoA it can.
