Thread: Question about Shop Discover

I don't have a Discover card, but my mom does. I had posted on here before trying to get the best cashback at the Apple Store and I was advised to go through Shop Discover. I asked my mom if I could use her card and pay her back so I could get 10% off at the Apple Store (5% online bonus & 5% bonus at Apple through shop Discover).

She said yes (we've always had a very good and trusting relationship). I ordered my computer through Apple & Shop Discover yesterday. Discovered flagged the transaction - (I should have known it would happen - I live in California and my mom lives in Massachusetts). So they called my mom and she approved the charges, but I would have to go back into my order and try the payment again.

I promptly went back to the Apple website, checked my order status, and hit "re-authorize payment" to put the card through. It went through.

Then it hit me. I didn't go through Shop Discover when I went BACK into my order to reauthorize the payment. Crap!

I know I'll still get the online shopping bonus, but did I ruin my chances for the Shop Discover bonus? Or will it be okay since it was the same order?

I think I have about a 50/50 chance...

I'm not sure if anyone here has any experience with something like this, but just thought I'd ask.

I'm 99% sure that it doesn't count unless you go through the shop discover link. I sincerely hope that I'm wrong, for your sake. It's my understanding that they track the purchase through the site in order to give you your cash back.

You're probably right. I feel so stupid. I'm just hoping it will still count because all I did was re-authorize the payment - I didn't make a new order or anything like that and it was the exact same card I used when making the original order. Ugh. What a bad $75 mistake...

I'm holding on, though. I still think there's a chance it will go through. I'll update once I find out what happens.

Return it/Cancel the order. Then order again.

Excellent suggestion.

I would cancel if it wasn't my mom's card. I feel like I've hassled her so much already. I don't want to cancel & re-order and have her deal with another possible fraud call. And also there's not enough credit left on her card do do another transaction until the pending charges drop off. I don't want to max out my mom's card .

I think I'll just go along with it, and if I don't get the credit for it then I'll play dumb & file a claim. I do have a receipt from when I did use the Shop Discover link.
